Surviving November Without October Salary: (Hive-Reachout Initiative 23)
As the month of November which happens to be the eleventh month of the year comes to a close, I'm reflecting on the challenges and that have defined my November. This month has been particularly tough even though friends came through for me, as I overcame the month of November without being paid my October Salary.
As October came to a close, I eagerly awaited for my salary, expecting it to hit my account on November 4th. But as the days passed by, my excitement turned to frustration. Six days passed without a credit alert from my bank, made me to reach out to my boss for answers. Because Na person wey work dey receive salary and yes I'm entitled to be paid that salary.
To my surprise, my boss informed me that my salary had been sent to my commander, because I was working directly under a vigilante officer and yes my pay is expected to pass through him first. For those who had once tried security work around Abuja I believed you know what I'm talking about.... advising me to contact him directly. I did as instructed, but my commander's response was far from reassuring. Instead, I heard from his colleague that he had used my salary to fund his trip to the village to harvest his crops. To the extend he blocked my contact from his phone leaving me in the dark. To the extend I had to used my second contact to send him a text.
I couldn't help but wonder how I would survive without my salary. But in the midst of this all My friends who have always been supportive have me a helping hand.
The funniest part of this all was, my colleague resigned from work without notifying me, leaving me to pick up double shifts for three good weeks and two days, I worked extra shifts this November even without seeing a dime of my October salary. It was a challenging period.
Despite the financial struggles, I've learned valuable lessons about resilience, gratitude, and the importance of community. In this November recap, I'll share some of the highlights and lowlights of the month, and how I've managed to stay afloat despite the challenges.
Going without a salary has been a harsh reality check. It's forced me to re-evaluate my priorities, cut back on non-essential expenses, and seek support from loved ones. There have been moments of frustration, anxiety, and doubt, but I've tried to approach each day with a sense of determination and hope.
Despite the financial struggles, November has had its share of silver linings. November had thought me to focus on personal growth. I have also learned to appreciate the little things in life.
The month of November has taught me some valuable lessons about resilience, gratitude, and the importance of friends.
As I close out November and look ahead to December, I'm already filled with hope and determination. I know that the road ahead won't be easy, but I'm always ready to face the challenges.
