They Call Me... Follower
Actually, my name is Dan, but I couldn't use that name. There is someone here among us, an important person, who has this name and I didn't want to seem to plagiarize it. Although I think I have this name before him, I've had it for almost 70 years. Because I started with this confession I must now admit that my name is not actually Dan, on paper. I am registered as Dumitru but I think my parents regretted their choice and always called me Dan...
Theycallmedan, haha!
I think now you know why I don't use my name and use a nickname I gave myself. The Follower!
Maybe someone is wondering where this nickname comes from, I tell myself with a hope not quite covered by reality. I prefer not to know if there is anyone wondering... so I can give the answer.
The nickname comes from the fact that I usually take pictures most of the time when I go somewhere or when I walk around. So that I can photograph, even if I'm with my wife or friends. I stand behind them, I'm always in the back and they can say I'm a follower.
A follower and a nostalgic.
Now I am full of nostalgia for summer, holidays, and the sea. A nostalgia that I treat with my holiday photos.
Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.
This is one of the recommendations made by @tattoodjay for those who prefer walking and are used to sharing impressions and photos in his community, Wednesday Walk, every Wednesday, like this one today.
Walk-in Limenaria, from Thassos Island, Greece.
As seen from a follower's perspective.
Every morning, leaving the hotel, the same question was asked. Walk in the woods or walk in the city?
This time the city was chosen.
Strange that in Greece such a town is called a village. Anyway, a bigger village or a smaller town...
This walk happened on our first holiday on the island, the very first day. We looked for the sea, of course, but also for the town.
In some places Limenaria looks like a rather dusty village and in others it looks like a small Greek town, with streets so steep that stairs had to be made...
Who was I really following? My companions on this trip were my wife and a friend. I was always a few steps behind them and let them choose the route. I could say it was a mistake. What could two women choose first but places to buy something...
On this first day and first walk, my ladies were merciful to me and chose to look only at the shop windows, which meant we didn't waste too much time in this commercial part of town.
Greeks are excellent business people. If the customer doesn't come into their shop then they go out into the street. This is to the liking of the ladies who have had the opportunity to see up close and touch things that will soon end up in their bags.
The two ladies who forced me to follow them were Magda, my wife, and Elena, our friend.
Elena is my wife's best friend. We have been friends for over thirty years. Friendship is the most beautiful feeling a person can have.
Greeks are very friendly people!
In this photo I recognized a Greek I didn't know at the time. I met him later that evening. He is the owner of a tavern where I ate octopus for the first time! That's also how I found out the reason why octopus arms are hung in the sun...
I'll talk about food another time.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on the situation) everything has an end. That's what happened to the street full of shops, terraces, taverns. That let me see something else. Old and quite dilapidated houses, but beautiful, to my taste and my camera, and streets with smaller or larger slopes.
The sea! Mainly for the sea, we made such a long journey. I knew about the Aegean Sea from Greek mythology. I learned it at school and in my old age I found out that it was not that far from where I live. A little over 600 km.
We stayed a long time by the sea, but not as long as the photo shows. It's not night yet, it's just an attempt to fight the sun, and obviously, it's bumped me to the ground and darkened my photo!
Years have passed since that first visit to Thassos, since that first walk through the small town. I haven't forgotten anything. If I close my eyes I can clearly see all the places where we walked.
The photos help me to remember. I have started a selection of all my photos and this search and evaluation stirs up a lot of nostalgia. That's why I try to quench the longing for summer and the sea with these holiday posts.
Love that virtual tour. Amazing place! Keep safe🥰
Glad to hear, thank you!
Congratulations, your post has been added to Pinmapple! 🎉🥳🍍
Did you know you have your own profile map?
And every post has their own map too!
Want to have your post on the map too?
Thank you!
I loved the introduction of the post dear friend @bluemoon and the reason for your username
What a beautiful walk, I like the period buildings, how well preserved they look, and the cobblestone streets
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate you sharing with us along with the hiking experience.
Have a beautiful afternoon
Yes I am sure you have had the name Dan longer than the other Dan, and interesting to read your take on being the follower
I think when I am taking photos I am not so much a follower and I am sure I drive my wife nuts at times, something catches my eye and off I wonder and she wonders where the heck I have gone LOL
Love your tour of this place looks so charming
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
It shows that you put more time and preparation into taking the photos, as a true and passionate photographer does. I'm not like that, I shoot all the time on the run, I would say randomly. Because I take a lot of photos I can find some better ones. That's because of digital photography, before, with classic photography, I couldn't afford to do that because of the cost.
This island, the only one I visited, impressed me so much that I liked everything a lot, even if there were, also, some quite common and uninteresting places.
Good to know that your name is Dan and it was so nice of you to have changed it for the sake of the other Dan
Wait a minute! Did you just say you were forced by two women? Lol!
I love the story behind your nickname and your tour around the city, the photographs looks amazing too
It's true, there were two women, who don't really resemble each other, so it was all the harder, haha!
All these natural beauty places looks so beautiful and amazing.
Greece is a wonderful country!
Oh I miss Greece too and being there for only 2 weeks over 23 year ago was just not enough and way way wayyyyy too long ago.
I HAVE to go back again some day and sooner rather than later I hope.
So thank you for stirring up some wonderful memories for me too!
What a wonderful adventure you had and sensational photos of some gorgeous scenes.
And although we can't/won't officially callyouDan on here so as not to confuse anyone, we can still secretly call you Dan in our minds...🤣
Oh, it's been so long since you've been to Greece! That doesn't matter, what matters is that you were there and Greece can't be forgotten. I hope you can travel to Greece again, even if it is so far away for you.
Thank you!
