A Walk Where Nobody Walks

Of the dozens of ways a walk can be I prefer the walk by the sea. Anything, the harder it is to obtain, is more valuable to us and, naturally, it should be so.

I am a sea lover who does not have the sea near, and when it is near I try to get everything from it. Of course, everything is an absolute that cannot be attained and they say that you are happy when you settle for little.

Between these two extremes are the moments when I go to the sea. Walks near or far from the seashore are my favorites. Even when I don't see the sea I can smell it and see the landscape, the relief, and nature modified by its proximity, I am as happy as when I walk on the beach with my feet in the water.

This year was special for me because I spent 20 days at the seaside, not all at once. I had 5 small vacations of 4 days, there were 5 trips...

On a couple of occasions, we stayed at a hotel isolated and further away from the sea, with no access to the beach. It was a hotel dedicated to golfers, most of them were not interested in the sea. I am not interested in golf and I am interested in the sea and I can say that it was a very pleasant experience. I had the opportunity to take many walks in the fields further away from the sea, about a kilometer away.

To get to the nearby town of Balchik, a narrow, sloping road has been built that intersects with a coastal road. On this road, I walked on a hot August day...

My wife and friends stayed at the hotel pool and I took my camera and went for a walk.

A walk where nobody walks...

...because they only drive cars.

A winding descent down a steep valley. Mirrors on curves prove this and help to avoid car collisions.

The climate in this place by the Black Sea is temperate with increasingly strong Mediterranean influences. The nature and vegetation are specific to the Mediterranean climate and I like it very much and it reminds me a bit of Greece. Bulgaria, where this place is, is neighboring Greece.

The vegetation is adapted to dryness and lack of water. The earth is not really earth, it is sand and limestone and chalk. The hills around Balcic are white because of this and have made this place called the Silver Coast.

The first part of the walk was like being in a tunnel from which I could not see the sea. Then it was time for the sea to show itself...

I could see the blue sea, even if we call it the Black Sea.

I climbed a hill to get a better view. Rarely have I had the opportunity to see such a seascape, that took my breath away.

The road continues down to Balchik...

...but I have to go back. I hadn't planned such a long walk, and a long absence might upset my friends. The way back, through the same place, is different though. I will show this in another post and I am curious if your opinion will be the same as mine.

When I am going to write a blog the first thing I do is to prepare the photos for the chosen theme. I like to use all of them and I'm sorry when I don't manage to do that and some remain unused.

And this time there were some photos that I failed to include in the story. I decided now that every time there are unused photos, I will put them at the end of the story. This is the first time I do this.

This whole story might not interest anyone but I hope you find something interesting in the photos. Because, in the end, that's what it's all about.

Make a point of looking around and up and see what you can find to get shots of that otherwise you may miss.
