FLORIDA WEAVE for my tomato and cucumbers!
With the new TRELLIS Arch, I needed a strong, flexible way to trellis my Tomato and Cucumber vines, to increase airflow and grow more fruit in less space. Some people use stakes, some, tie to top. For me, I create a weave out of twine, called the Florida Weave, that is strong and flexible enough to let the plants grow, while supporting the weight of fruits, too.
I've been training my cucumbers up, and on one side, creating a jute twine Florida weave (for my cherry tomato) On the other side, I attached some chicken wire for running up my bigger beefier tomato:
Giant Crimson, Mushroom Basket, Beefsteaks, and Brandywines.

I have been watching so many videos on how to grow and prune and tend to veggies in the garden this year. We grow 10-foot ornamental grass that turns out to look like skinny bamboo and I use those for my trellises. This year, I poked them into the ground around the cucumbers, squash and tomatoes and then tied them together at the top with twine. Working well so far and I might just be inspired to bust out a garden update tonight now!

I have a friend who has something similar growing, and I sued to cut the grass shoots for making tripods for my cukes to grow. I still use them for some of my peas growing!

I always look for natural jute, or natural fibers. NEVER "poly" anything, lol.
Actually, at the end of season two! I can most times, get a second season out of twine.
Wild pen caps 😂 you commented on running out of stakes... you can never have enough stakes 🤦 You mentioned the Florida weave last year. I had some corn that fell over in the floods last year. I put the FLA weave to work and it held them up enough to finish out the ears of corn 👍

I read that corn sends it roots down only a few inches so strong winds can really knock it down.

it really helps tomato to grow taller and more fruit in less square footage. Gives plenty of helpful airflow, preventing many blight diseases that harm tomato.
