An Early August Harvest Video

August.jpg

AUGUST HARVEST TIME!
Finally getting really decent harvests each day, now. Here's my latest harvest video, from the beginning of August.

IMG_0619.JPG

There's a couple of Test Garlic Bulbs harvested. One Red Beetroot. One Zucchini, a bunch of Sweet Banana Pepper. Bunch of small Lemon Aji, medium spicy pepper that I make into Medium Spicy Salsa, a new to me, HABANADA pepper. That's ALL the flavor and NO HEAT/Spiciness. I prefer sweet rather than spicy, and I grow the Habanada for it's flavor, not heat. Also, 11 varieties of Tomato.

Most of you know, I prefer to grow my own food, locally. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking, planes, trains, and boats, to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

I can’t imagine having 11 kinds of tomatoes at once — I usually just see them in the store. Makes me want to try planting my own veggies, even if it’s just in pots for now.

I am growing most everything in fabric grow pots.
In total, I have 14 varieties of tomato growing but not all are ready for picking yet. I plant so many different kiinds for different reasons. Some ripen at different times so I spread my harvest out. Some have different colours, sizes, or flavors, for different types of cooking.

DEFINITELY start some plants in pots, even if it is only one for now!

Wow! Wonderful harvest! I am curious about the banana pepper, a banana yet a pepper, lol. Well, it's because it's my first time to hear its name.

I envy those tomatoes, mine didn't live well. Some of them died. Perhaps because I have been very busy these past few weeks so I didn't given much time to check on them.

Enjoy the every day harvest!

This banana pepper is called that because if it's shape!
They are a pepper (chili) and mine are sweet banana pepper. Some do grow a hot banana pepper, but not me. I have about 50 tomato plants. I eat them fresh, and also make sauce for when it is middle of winter and need to cook.
