Happy Friday. y'all amazing people! TGIF!
I've mentioned in my previous posts about our family trip to the mountains in Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet, and as a continuation, I am virtually taking you today to the misty, foggy, and cold mountains of Asin Road to discover some arts and history at BenCab Museum.
As we were winding our way back to La Union from La Trinidad, Benguet, at around 3 p.m., we decided to take a detour that led us to an unexpected gem: the BenCab Museum in Asin Road, Tuba, Benguet, a few minutes drive from Baguio City. The day was perfect for a museum visit. The weather was foggy and cold, adding a touch of mystique to our spontaneous adventure. As we stepped out of the vehicle, we were greeted by the crisp mountain air, a more refreshing weather from where we were at first back in La Trinidad. The fog started to spread like crazy. The road was almost at zero visibility, which made me think I was in a vampire town. Don't get me wrong, I love fog, and I could stare at it all day. It feels like I just landed in heaven on earth.
The BenCab Museum, nestled amidst the lush pine trees of Benguet, is a treasure trove of art and culture. As we walked through the doors, we were immediately transported into a world of creativity and imagination. The museum is home to a vast collection of art pieces, each telling a unique story. The galleries were filled with a diverse range of paintings, each one a testament to the artist's skill and creativity. From abstract pieces that challenged our perception to realistic portraits that captured the essence of their subjects, the museum offered a visual feast for art enthusiasts like us. But it wasn't just paintings that caught our eye. The museum also housed an impressive collection of wood sculptures. These pieces, carved with intricate detail, showcased the talent and craftsmanship of local artists. Each sculpture was a work of art, their wooden forms brought to life by the skilled hands of their creators.
Our daughter, an aspiring artist, was particularly fascinated by the art pieces. She spent minutes studying the paintings and sculptures, her eyes wide with wonder and admiration. It was heartwarming to see her so engrossed; her passion for art was ignited by the inspiring works around her.
Another thing I love about the museum is where it is located. Nestled on the magical mountain of Asin Road, you can see the magnificent landscape of Benguet from the back view deck of the museum. The fog was dancing just as we got there. I spent most of our visit staring at the fog behind the gorgeous trees. Include the sound of nature and the song of birds; it was truly amazing.
By the way, the operating hours of the BenCab Museum are as follows:
Tuesday to Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The museum is closed on Mondays, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day.
Admission is only available until 5:30 PM, and tickets cannot be purchased beyond this time. The museum may close early on some days, usually the day preceding a major holiday like Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. Please note that these hours may be subject to change, so it's always a good idea to check the official website or contact the museum directly for the most up-to-date information. By the way, did you have a chance to explore any other museums or cultural sites during your trip to Benguet or Baguio City? I'm always curious to hear about new discoveries!
Before I forget, I think I paid 200 pesos each. Gosh, I'm old lol. But I am pretty sure I paid less than a thousand pesos for the 3 of us.
Our visit to the BenCab Museum was more than just a side trip. It was an enriching experience, a journey into the heart of Filipino art and culture. As we drove away, we carried with us not just memories but also a newfound appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Philippine art.
That was it. I hope you enjoyed the tour, my friends. Until our next trip. Have a fabulous day to all.
