RE: Fantasy Premier League - A first look at early strategies for 23/24
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
Man City tend to have a fairly consistent starting XI for the first few games of the season - whether the Super Cup will change that is yet another risk in the Guardiola rotation risk game.
I'm hoping that Haaland will be £14m like they did with Ronaldo, Henry and van Persie - van Persie was priced at that having scored fewer points than Haaland did this season - although Salah's scored more and never started above £13m which leads me to think that they'll make Haaland £13m so that he's accessible to the masses.
Elsewhere at City, Foden obviously did something to piss off Pep prior to the World Cup (Pep complained about player's protecting themselves before the WC) and he appears to be back in the good books. I wonder if Grealish's off-the-field antics will attract a similar fate to that which Foden endured. I also think Cole Palmer will get a lot more game time this season, he looked very sharp when given game time and then World Cup winner Alvarez is bound to play a bigger role too - at the expense of De Bruyne?
Despite their great opening set of fixtures, I suspect that a triple-up will be very risky (and also very expensive).
Arsenal's another interesting one because Trossard's also waiting in the wings and has proven himself. If Declan Rice goes there, he'll probably take Xhaka's role and given how defensive we all think Rice is, I think he'll be kindly priced and will have a more attacking role. One to watch unless Man City get him. In which case he'll have a nice rest this season.
Premier League squads have so much flexibility now and so many players competing for places that it might be a wise strategy to start the season with safer picks who are more likely to get plenty of game time. I can see a lot of squads with 4 or 5 risky picks only getting 9 or 10 players out and needing an early Wildcard.
Who knows 🙂 I'm waiting for the prices to come out before thinking about it too much and might well start the season without Haaland 🫢
Definitely agree that you want to start the season with 15 players who are available and likely to start.
The Haaland gamble (either way) could be the defining decision of the early part of the season. If he's £14mil, i can imagine it's going to be difficult to put together a very deep, competitive squad of players.
Cole Palmer is one to watch and maybe James McAtee too, particularly if Palmer goes out on loan. Let's see who Pep gives opportunities too in pre-season and the Charity Shield.

I think that's why they'll stop at £13m and I suspect Salah will drop back to £12.5m. I think they'll want 2 big hitters to be accessible albeit at the expense of the mid-priced assets. I think it's going to be tough to get a decent squad together with the rotation fears and (hopefully) increased prices. I wonder if we'll see a return of the wing backs this season and more money move back into defence. Or the full back / central midfielder role becoming even more prominent. Too many things to speculate upon, need to stop thinking 😄
I might be tempted to go for Kane over Haaland but as you've said, that could be a huge risk and Gameweek 1 isn't really the time to go too risky.
And Rico Lewis as well - especially if Kyle Walker moves. Although again, tactics and formations make this another lottery. Too many lotteries and I don't win often enough to take part!
