Von Athen aus gibt es mehrere Flüge täglich und die Kosten sind passabel. Es gibt auch eine Busverbindung oder man fährt mit dem eigenen Auto oder Mietwagen. Zwischen Igoumenitsa und Korfu Stadt verkehren mehrere Fähren täglich. Mit dem Auto braucht man allerdings bestimmt 7 Stunden, mit Pausen dazwischen noch mehr. Vorteil ist, dass man noch etwas vom griechischen Festland sieht. Mit dem Flugzeug dauert es gerade mal ein gute Stunde bis zur Landung auf Korfu. Von Frühjahr bis Herbst gibt es auch einige Direktflüge aus Deutschland nach Korfu.

Vom Flughafen aus ist man mit Taxi oder Bus recht schnell in der Innenstadt.
Die Stadt Korfu ist geprägt von 2 mächtigen Festungen, die alte und die neue Festung. Innerhalb der alten Festung lebte auch lange Zeit die gesamte Bevölkerung der Stadt. Erbaut wurde sie von den Venzianern, die sich hier nieder gelassen hatten. Sie diente als Stützpunkt zur Sicherung der Handelswege.

Als die Bevölkerung wuchs, wurde die Festung zu klein für alle Bewohner und die Stadt breitet sich weiter aus. Im 16. Jahrhundert wurde die neue Festung erbaut um die Bevölkerung und die Seewege besser schützen zu können.

Einige Geschäfte hatten geschlossen, sie öffnen wohl nur zur Hauptsaison so zwischen April und September. Mir war das nur recht, denn ich bevorzuge die Zeiten wenn der Rummel nicht so groß ist.

Einmal gab es ein heftiges Gewitter mit Hagel, aber nach 2 - 3 Stunden kam die Sonne wieder heraus. Es blieb zwar noch einen Tag lang kühler und vom Meer her kam auch ein kühler Wind. Aber in der Sonne war es trotzdem angenehm und am nächsten Tag war es auch schon wieder wärmer.
