Greetings Dear Reader,

.
Hope you are well.
.
This is a Principle that makes us sit up and take notice...does it not.

Principle; ....'No one can make you happy.'

People and circumstances can bring a temporary stimulation. Many times we mistake happenings for happiness. Happiness is contentment...not stimulation...not happenings.

There is a proverb that says...'He that handles a matter wisely shall find good:
And he who trusts in the LORD, happy is he.' Proverbs 16.20

Let's give this Principle and Proverb a think.....shall we.

Thank you for dropping by. ^__^

Very nice pictures here of the tulips!

Indeed tough, only you are responsible for your own happiness, even God can only help, but you must want it otherwise even He can't do it

Another interesting principle, dear Bleujay. I agree with you sometimes we mistake happenings for happiness. We have to think about it. ❤️

Absolutely gorgeous stuff, all of it. I love that first photo. It has a motion that is freeing, that pink!, spilling out of that bit of glass, scrumptious!

Stunning.... Too stunning. The second picture looks like those images that are mostly used for wallpapers. I mean, the shot is lovely. I also like the wide angle shots, but the second picture of the tulip was the best of them all.

Happiness has been something that has been on my mind as a concept quite some time now.

I always figured it was a passive thing that was the overall feeling highly dependent upon our surroundings and results of our endeavours. Maybe I mistook happiness for contentment?

I have come to believe happiness is a decision. If things are not going well, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be happy. Unpleased with the situation perhaps but we can decide to have a good attitude about it and still choose happiness.

If this is the case, then surely you are right in that someone cannot make us happy. Perhaps connecting to other beings can contribute to happiness as we are fulfilling a part of our basic purpose.

In the same vein, we cannot make someone else happy either. Unless perhaps we can convince them to choose happiness for themselves.

Such a lovely thought-full comment...well said.

Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and thought process.

The phrase...'to be at peace with it' came to mind as I read your words 'to decide to have a good attitude'...interesting.

True, no one can make us happy but only ourselves, as we all know, those are very small moments of joy in our lives.

I agree @bleujay, no one can make you happy, except yourself. The happiness that others will give you will not be permanent, but the happiness you have through your own efforts will last longer.

I admire your art :)

Blimey @bleujay! Now this principle has really had to make me think. You make a very bold statement here and as always with your principles they provoke much thought and consideration, and sometimes even internal consternation which can be a good thing sometimes for us humans.

When I really think whether it's possible for other people to make you happy I must answer in the affirmative. People are the source of happiness for a lot of us, I would even say most of us. Where would we be in life without our partners or our parents? What would we be without friends? I shudder to think. How much of a positive difference to our lives do good neighbours make? A lot I would say.

However, on the other hand I can see another side to this principle you are asking us to ponder. All of the above relationships I mentioned could turn out to be transitory, they could breakdown and you may seek other people in your life. So it could be said that true happiness is down to you, not others.

But when it comes to happiness does everything really come back to the individual? I guess a definitive answer has to be yes and no. But I think for most of us true happiness is sharing this life with others.

What an extraordinarily thought provoking principle you bring to the table this time @bleujay, thank you as always.

Greetings @peaceandmoney ,

Lovely to hear from you. Thank you for your kind reply. The principle definitely gives us something to think about.

Perhaps it depends on a person's definition of happiness. In this context...I would use the synonym, contentment versus the demand syndrome, the antonym.

The idea is that we should not depend on others for happiness...but that that happiness must come from inside.

Can others take your happiness from you? If yes...we are depending on people/circumstances for our happiness. Yes...we may be displeased...however the attitude is that of 'being at peace with it'/our core is content not discombobulated at the disturbance. We still deal with the matter objectively.

There is no doubt we receive great satisfaction/ fulfilment/ pleasure etc. from those in our lives....however the Principle remains the same...No one can make you happy....just as we cannot make someone happy/content/at peace etc.

From your reply...I thought I would take the part that was the 'no' and see if there was more that could be said. ^__^

Kind Regards,

Bleujay

Thank you for opportunity to dialogue over the principle.

Wonderful photos of tulips @bleujay!
I'd be interested to see your search for light watercolor tones when depicting white flowers.
The pencil sketch is already intriguing!
As for the principle, with age, the attitude towards it changes and, as a rule, the degree of approach to the original source of happiness in the person of God is directly proportional to age (or the difficulties that a person went through, financial difficulties, health difficulties, etc.)... but not always, but often :)
Have a blessed day!

I think that our life has more sad, lateral moments than happy ones, so we have to make the most of them. You say that it is synonymous with satisfaction, I understand, but happiness as such is difficult to find. Sometimes we have it in front of us and we let it pass, we do not recognize it, perhaps because we always want to have it.

Greetings @lupega ,

Happiness is a synonym of contentment....let's look at the opposite..unhappiness...or even demanding people and circumstances make you happy...implying that it is the fault of others and/or circumstances that we are unhappy.

Happiness/Contentment begins with us and is a by product of humility.

This does not mean that there is not drive and competitiveness...it means when you have given your best effort...you are content with the outcome.

Happy as a word is overused in the wrong way.....which implies an elevated stimulation which cannot be sustained.

When we learn to distinguish these words, their definitions, their synonyms and antonyms....we have more clarity and understanding...and will not be misled by the wrong usage of the word 'Happy'.

Hope this assists. ^__^

Bleujay
