Spanish Holidays and a random quiz.

I have not been active on Hive in 2 weeks because I was away on my holiers so I decided to take a break from everything including all things Hive related. It was more out of necessity than out of choice because on this holiday there was a 6 year old and a 2 year old in toe so I spent most of the holiday making sure they did not drown in any way shape or form. Being on holiday with two kids is no walk in the the park. The journey to get there is an epic feat of planning and drip feeding new games and toys to keep them entertained. Thankfully the ipad kept them going on the flight although the bad approach on our way had our little man pure anxious whenever he got in a lift for the two weeks following.

We were heading to a place called Can Piquefort in Mallorca. More a family resort which was quieter than the other places like Alcudia and Magaluf for example. The majority of people there were German which I was happy enough with as the Germans are normally picky when it comes to holiday destinations. They ain't going to no shit hole. The resort was especially for families and again mostly Germans so I had to delve into my German language again to converse with the families so it wasn't long before my pigeon German was back in full flight. Zafiro was magnificent , clean and a great spot for families. I would highly recommend it and I will go back in a heartbeat with the kids. It even has a quiet pool for the adults who could come and relax for a while away from the kids. It also had a shop, tennis courts, a gym, a playground, games area such as pool and tabletennis on site. Oh and it had a big stage for the evenings entertainment.

The kiddies had a bad start. The baby pool had a giant bucket when was constantly filling up. Every couple of minutes it would tip over sending a giant bucket of water splashing down in the pool. My two virgin baby pool goers naively made their way under the bucket. The bucket tipped and they got the greatest shock of their lifes and cried for over two hours. The pool was then banished for ever more so we were forced to swim in the "boring " pool with no slides or bells and whistles.

From morning to night there was activities on for the kiddies. And great entertainment at night from African gymnasts to magicians and puppet shows. We didn't have to leave resort really. However we did not go all inclusive as we didn't want to be having breakfast , lunch and dinner in the same place. Don't get me wrong the food was lovely but I like my bit of choice at dinner time. So off we went to the town every night to a different restaurant each time.

I am always on the look our for some Irish /British bars on my travels to chat to the locals about football and the like. Can Piqueford was weird in a way that there were not that many. I stumbled upon a bar called Trotters while I was waiting for my wife. She was browsing in the shops. The bar manager was a nice guy and threw me out a pint and a quiz sheet. Feck it. I had to swap my answer sheet with a Scottish couple who were next to me. Looking at their answers I was in with a shout. There were about 15 tables. I was sure to come 14th anyway. I just put down my team name as Irish Rover and waited eagerly for the answers. So I got around 8 right at the end and I was told I was in a tie breaker with two other tables.

I took a swing at it and answered 1982. The other tables said 1985 and the last table 1996.
The answer was 1975. I had won the quiz and a bottle of white wine. The owner asked me to make a speech so I got up and thanked god like I had won an Oscar. I told everyone I had to exit stage left as my wife was texting me that she was back at the hotel. I was carried out of the pub on the shoulders of drunk English northerners. I swanned into the hotel triumphant after my historic win in Trotters. However I wasn't a king among men back there so I yearned to go back to the place I was considered a noble.

Alas I did not get to defend my title but I am back in the land of the living to continue posting on Hive a few times a week. I hope you didn't miss me too much.
