My G.O.A.T series: Boys over Flower 🌸😊💖

Hi guys! This is my first time here and I hope with this participation, more posts are seen from me as time goes on. So, concerning the prompt of the week; GREATEST OF ALL TIME series and why, let’s dive into that.

It just struck me that I’ve actually seen a lot of movies and it’s not like I haven’t acknowledged this fact but upon racking my head to write on this prompt, it just happened to hit me really hard on the time and emotions I’ve invested into seeing these movies. Lol.

And I’m not just referring to movies I’ve watched from Nollywood, Hollywood or Bollywood cuz I have seen movies from She must be obeyed(nollywood) to Double Cara(philippine) to Merlin(hollywood) to King of hearts(bollywood) and even down to Avatar; the air bender (if anime series counts, lol). But as you all know, where many are listed, there is always a winner and for me, it is K-Dramas 👑

Ps: If you are a critic of Korean movies, please read this piece with discretion cuz it might get too cheesy for you 😂

So my G.O.A.T series is …..drum roll…. Boys over Flower (2009) 🎉

My history with K-dramas can be linked to this movie and it dates back to 2015 when I first got introduced into the realm by my childhood friend who happened to be a movie nerd at the time. I got so immersed in the acting especially with the lead character, Lee Min-ho and since then I’ve seen almost every movie acted by the lad. Movies like Personal taste, City hunter, Legend of the blue sea, The Heirs, The king; eternal monarch are just a few I can think of.

WHY THIS SERIES?

Well, for starters, my all-time favorite movie genre is Romance and this movie happened to be one. The movie describes the life of a poor scholarship student struggling in the midst of her wealthy peers and how she manages to navigate through the obstacles caused by her romantic entanglement with the most influential male student who was the arrogant and good looking heir to Shinhwa group.

Secondly, the movie will always be a classic for me because it laid the foundations of my love for K-dramas. With Boys over flower as the anchor, I’ve seen a whole lot more movies with impressive scenes and character display such as Crash landing on you which frequently moved me to tears while watching, Bon Appetite your majesty which got me hooked as I progressed from episode to episode and even Dating in the kitchen which is a Chinese movie but a good one for folks who enjoy cooking movies.

Thirdly, though it may seem like it was based on romantic fantasy, the movie had a relatable storyline especially with the part where the wealthy students bullied the poor ones. The acting wasn’t as substandard as I thought it’d be. The lighting still gives a vintage vibe till date. The locations used were nicely picked out (in my own opinion). And even the soundtracks did justice in milking out the emotions from the audience especially the somber ones. With these, my taste in romantic movies have improved 😜

Conclusively, my reasons may seem trivial but I strongly believe that simplicity is best. That will be all for today guys.

Peace and love, always…
