Christmas: An unshakable feeling of joy 😁✨

During a conversation with an acquaintance, she randomly asked “what smells so good but isn’t perfume?” I answered “Christmas 😂”.
The answer was expected by neither of us and we both just jested about it. But thinking about it now, I think that answer was true for me; the “smell of Christmas” 😌

It is more than just aroma. It’s a feeling so wonderful that it brings joy. It is that inexpressible feeling that comes only once in a year. It barely extents past the fifth day of a new year but still, it’s presence is undeniably felt.

It’s more than just the taste of good food, it’s the beauty of sharing it with loved ones. It’s more than just good music, it’s the joyful chatter that echoes the house with voices of loved ones. It’s not just about the gifts under the Christmas tree, it’s the thoughtful warmth wrapped in each present. It’s not just about the cold that the winter snow or the harmattan breeze brings causing me to want to snuggle my blanket even more, it’s the happiness of getting warm by the fire with family and relatives.

The carols that I jolly singalong with family and friend continuously pumps feel-good juices in me 😁. The holiday movies makes home homelier. The preparations to travel elsewhere for the festivity beautifies the whole idea of Christmas.

The Christmas tree, the lights and decorations, the treats hidden in the socks hung by the fireplace, the heat for the fireplace that never burns but warms, the outfits that still brings happiness to my eyes even as an adult 😂, the fireworks that lights up the evening’s sky, the eagerness to want to attend Mass/church service held on Christmas Eve, the wishing of “Merry Christmas” to all those at home and away—to those remembered and forgotten, to those loved and despised. It’s just a whole level of inexpressive moments!
