Painting a sketch with mixed mediums

avatar

Well usually I paint sceneries but this week it's a bit different as I'm painting one of my old sketches on my Sketchbook.

So the art mediums I'm using are mixed . I will use water colors , micron ink pen to outline . Color pencils , a graphite pencil and erasure .

First of all here is an amazing hack which I use . I always make a second trace of my own sketched portraits when ever I'm painting so even if I mess it up, I still have a spare backup sketch and the main sketch isn't ruined .

To trace any of your sketch on a sketchbook just fill the behind paper of your sketch with a graphite pencil do this slowly and make sure u have graphite covering the whole sketch .
Now we will slightly tape it up on the sketch book and redraw it all with a light pencil . What happens is the Graphite behind leaves the residue where you put the Pressure over the sketch . This way you can transfer a light sketch over ur sketchbook and just it's all ready to paint .

So here is an old sketch I did of an edgy girl I retraced it over my sketchbook with Graphite powder method and I Begin water coloring it .

You may think the pencil looks gray and ashy that's why I use the water colors as first medium so I can easily erase the graphite right after . I started by coloring the skin with a base skin color . You can mix yellow and orange to make a slight peach color use it as a base wash . Now paint it over the skin part and I used a little red and peach together for the lips .
Next i do a wash layer in reddish brown color I will use it for the hair but I left the highlighted part alone because when you water color the white color is usually opaque so the best way is to leave that part white . Now I added orange base wash to her glasses and jewelry till now you can just see light everything now for the shadows o mixed peach and brown to make the shaded parts .

After the water colors dried I erased all the Pencil markings with an erasure and I started with Colored Pencils firstly I use hatching technique for her hair with red and brown making it's a ombre effect and I left the highlighted part of the hair
I also used a skin tone pencil and colored the skin and for the contours and shading of face I used a maroon and brown pencil . For her jewelry and glass I used a yellow pencil color and for the crop top I used a combalt blue pencil Because Yellow and Blue make a lovely Complementary combination.

Now I just will burnish and add more colored pencils cross hatch like for the hair I kept on layering dark brown and black and on the highlights I added a little pink and pale yellow wash because colored hair have a colored highlight too I also did this same thing with the eyebrows and her braids i just hatched them in a pattern .
Next I kept adding more maroon to the nose side to define and contour it and I added a Golden ear cuff to her hair

It seemed bit simple so I gave her a pink graphic liner also a septum piercing . I then colored the background with a purple wash and

here is the final result after doing some outlines with a fine liner .

I really loved doing this and tbh I think I'm starting to develop an art style today .

That's all for today Thank you for your precious time and support ❤️
