Crypto and Telecom What Most Don't Know

Crypto has really shaken up the world in which we live. Things have become more digital than ever, payments are faster and cheaper across the board even in the fiat world and the speed of how the world trades with each other has also had a massive change.

It's clear that it's shaking up many industries but one that's not talked about all that much is Telecom and it's a powerhouse of a industry that the crypto market is attempted to tap into and change.

Helium

Helium has been around for a while but there hasn't been much news about it. You need some rather larger coverage and within my area of over 5,000 houses I think two nodes are running both of which are out of range. The other issue is these networks still seem to use Wifi in order to create that coverage.

They have also just released an outdoor version which helps expand the network a bit more.

This single system is a way to offer up low price options for cell phone coverage. But to be honest I use Mint at the moment and that only costs me $150 a year. Yep a YEAR and the service is good enough for what I use my phone for.

Some of the notable ones include:

Telcoin (TEL): Coincidentally, also in the payments space: this project aims to make international remittances cheaper and more efficient by teaming up with mobile operators. They will integrate these businesses into mobile money platforms to enable instant inter-bank cross-border payments.

Dent (DENT): Dent aims to create a global marketplace for mobile data, allowing users to buy, sell, and share their mobile data using the Dent token.

NKN (New Kind of Network):A public Layer 2 network connectivity protocol and ecosystem built with blockchain technology to create a more efficient distributed data transfer network by incentivising users to share their unused bandwidth.

Holo (HOT): Although Holo is more a distributed cloud hosting marketplace, it can also compete with telcos in providing decentralised hosting for apps, especially in edge computing and IoT (Internet of things).

Status (SNT): While best known for its role as a decentralised messaging app, Status specifically straddles the line between privacy and secure communications and ‘telecom services’, which proponents say are often one and the same.

These tokens also lead to the application of blockchain technology to introduce innovation or improvement to telecommunication services, such as data sharing and decentralised connectivity.

There's also data sharing services in particular ByteLixir has been one of my most active and profitable applications to use.

This sharing of network does help in a way but the core still is not being removed which are the ISP (Internet Service Providers) I do welcome the day when a CND network almost like we had with Theta nodes and their streaming platform that was super cool and I was sad to see the streaming service close up shop.

Overall I can see this network expanding into other areas like finance for example which I'm starting to explore myself in terms of Zeebu protocol. What I do know is that crypto and the world is still advancing at a rapid pace and it's something we should all keep on top of.

I worked in Telecom space in software development for more than 15 years and truly I didn't realize that crypto broke into this domain as well. I know in the beginning I was searching how blockchain can help and propel Telecom but lost sight about it along the way. Good list of crypto Telecom projects.
