A Food I Find Overrated.
I’m a local Nigerian girl who loves to explore. I love to travel, see new things or even try new food. I’ve eaten so many foods and I’ve been to so many restaurants in Nigeria. I’ve been to Chinese restaurants, Italian restaurants or even our local Nigerian restaurants. That’s for you to know that I’ve eaten so many dishes like Yamarita, glass noodles, busta, arancini, pizza, shawarma and my other Nigerian foods.
Well, I don’t think there will be any food that is better than Nigerian foods and I think the major reason is the fact that I was brought up with Nigerian foods and I didn’t get to eat foods that do not belong to Nigerians when I was younger. I just started to eat them when I am growing older since I have the opportunity to go out to have fun.
Unfortunately, I don’t like so many foods out of the ones I have tried and if I am told to try any food today, I’d still go for my local Nigerian dishes and when I’m talking about them, I mean Amala, Semo and the likes.

This made me remember the first time I heard about yamarita. My friends hyped it so much and when I tried it, it was just like trash to me. Well, it wasn’t extremely bad and it was something I could still manage as long as I was able to finish my food because I didn’t want my money to waste.
If I ever get to see yamarita today, I’d still eat it because it isn’t that bad even though I don’t like the dish but there are some dishes that I don’t think I can ever manage. Let’s get to know that one dish I know is overhyped…
Pounded Yam
An average Nigerian man or woman of my tribe is surely going to like pounded yam. If you ask so many people from the Yoruba tribe about the best Yoruba food, all what you’d hear is pounded yam.
I remember the first day I had pounded yam. My mum stressed herself so much making sure that she cooked something special for us at the end of the day but we didn’t eat it well including my dad. I now began to wonder why my friends were hyping the rubbish because the food seemed like rubbish to me.

It doesn’t really have any kind of taste that I can describe and my mum even cooked it with a soup I didn’t like which was Efo Riro. The combination wasn’t even tasting well and I could not even finish the food. I got to school the next day and told my friends about it and they suggested that we go to one restaurant after school so I can experience the sweetness of pounded yam. When I got there, I made my order and the food still looked like trash to me.
I’m sure a lot of Nigerians reading this post may laugh at me for not liking pounded yam but that’s just the truth. That food is overhyped or overrated.
Dear Nigerian reader, do you agree with me?

I don’t eat Pounded Yam often … lol. So no, I don’t agree with you 😂 but I get that we are all different people 😁😁😁
Hehe
We’re truly different though
Well, I haven't tried Pounded Yam before so I don't how it tasks like but I have heard a lot of people saying they like it while others dislike it just like you just said.
I think if I try it then I can be able to decide on the page I'm on.
Wow, you don't like pounded yam? Well our choices and taste are different so I respect that.
I am an indigene of ekiti state and aside from it being our cultural food, it's one of my best meals.
Yamarita isn't bad as well because it's just an advanced way of enjoying yam and egg. One question I would like to ask is if you like yam at all.
