“You know, I come from a small village where we have a tradition to wish upon a star, apparently its not a thing these days.” Starla said to Judith as she took a deep breath, breathing out in an energy that exhume despair.

“What's wrong Starla,” Judith questioned not paying attention to what Starla just said but rather the gloomy look and expression she's exhibiting.

“Look up in the sky Judith, what do you see?” Starla questioned in response.

“You are gradually starting to creep me out Starla, what's all this talk on the cloud and stars? What's eating you up?”

“Just look Judith and tell me what you see”

Judith took a long stare at Starla, still lost in what's going on, she obeyed and caught a quick glimpse of the dark sky.

“Whoa!, I have never seen the sky looked this dark, not a single star in sight not even the moon. Well, probably it's about to rain” Judith concluded

“It's not rain, Judith, rain is far from dropping to the surface of the soil.”

“Then what is it Starla? You haven't really said anything”

“That's because there's nothing left to say, humans will never learn, it's always the same repetitive pattern with them.”

“You really need to get a grip girl” Judith said to Starla as she held on her shoulder and shook it gently.

Starla and Judith's friendship just happened, a friendship that would have been forbidden before now seeing Starla's ancestors were regarded as bush people whom no one knew their origin.

As time passed, with emerging enlightenment, the villagers became more and more accommodating towards Starla's people.

But then suddenly, they all started leaving one by one without any trace.

Starla is the last of her kind, as she was rescued by Judith's father during infancy from being Tiger food when her parents left with no trace. But it was rumored that they've been Tiger food before the rescue.

Apparently, people just stopped believing in supernatural phenomenal. As civilization advanced and innovation became a thing, people could actually practicalizing on things to achieve their hearts intent.

It's no longer wishing to have a better life but getting an education, getting a skill and earning to create the life that they want. At a point the villagers felt wishing was a waste of time and they just stopped believing in the stars.

As the energy level of their belief system dropped, the star people of adult age started fading to dust.

Starla felt the selfish nature of humans, being more about themselves and abandoning the belief of wishing upon a star, lead to the extinction of her people.

Her hair shunned ever so brightly, as her skin glowed even in the dark, regardless of how beautiful and attractive she looked, it was evident that she's not happy and this troubled Judith.

One evening, just as the girls were lying faces up to the dark clouds and catching up with the days activities, they saw a flashlight approach Earth's surface.

“Wow! A shooting star,” Starla exclaimed as she immediately got up to make a wish.

Judith watched in amazement, she waited for Starla to finish, then she teased her. “Don't tell me you just made a wish Star.”

“Yeah I just did,” Starla responded with a broad smile. Finally, my prayers are being answered, she muttered.

Judith has since learned not to pry too much into Starla's affair. She has long before now accorded her that.

As they headed back home, a light being walked towards them and as he approached the girls, he got dimmer and looked just like Starla. A blond shiny haired male with long limbs and a glittering body.

Judith was amazed, she turned and looked at Starla, “is this what you wished for?”

“Yes!” Starla screamed in excitement as she ran to hug her kind. As their bodies connected, the sky brightened.

I have to wish upon a star very soon because Starla just gave me hope that it works. Judith is such an understanding friend. We all need a Judith in our lives.

This is like a magical story. I am sure there is more to the Starla story. I have also seen the shooting star. I was very young, and I have seen it on three different occasions, but one of them stands out the most.
Nice piece dear.
