Public awareness- The hand of government

If there is one thing that I hate in politics, it is the government playing god with people’s lives. I think it was yesterday that I woke up to a tweet of President Trump from my friend. In the tweet, Trump was briefing the world on the launched attack the US military made against the bandits in Nigeria reported to be killing Christians.

According to my friend, the US military can target these bandits in Nigeria, but our own military can’t? Well, her question was another opportunity for me to educate on how dirty and compromised our military and government are. In that moment I shared the experience of a friend in the military.

I remember congratulating him on his promotions and encouraging him to keep pushing, as one day he will likely become a general and tell of his experiences to young soldiers, which will ultimately serve as a motivation for the new and young recruit. I thought I was being encouraging, but from his end I got a cold response, and when I asked what’s wrong, he questioned of what use are such experiences when they are staged and a gamble with people’s lives.

I have heard on some occasions that the bandits were being sponsored by the government, which comprises the military, but I never believed it until my friend in the military told me about the act of leaking intelligence reports to the bandits that ultimately leads to them having the upper hand in battle. I was not shocked, but at the same time I was somewhat in disbelief.

Do you feel the feeling of denial when the rumor has been confirmed from the horse's mouth? That was exactly how I felt, and for days I pondered. It really didn’t make sense to me why military personnel would have such knowledge of them being taken advantage of by being used as pawns, and the Nigerian army is not empty.

Well, in recent times we have had fewer people apply for army recruitment, but still I expect a more resistant approach, like mass resignation and no single entry when it comes to recruitment. But sadly the military, backed by the government, exploits the lack of employment in the country to enlist desperate and unsuspecting victims.

With the little knowledge that I have gathered on government activities so far, I always tell people who care to listen that no terrorist organization is bigger than the government of any country. That’s why when I see people on social media believing in the stupid lies of the government being handicapped for security issues, I just hiss because I know better.

The thing is these terrorists exist as assassins to the government in power. They carry out the dirty jobs while the government feigns ignorance and uses the excuse of trying to annihilate them to milk money from the government coffers through security votes.

Notably, bearing this knowledge in mind is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I have weaned myself from panicking over insecurity issues. But then it’s a curse because it’s quite heartbreaking for me to live with the fact that the people who have sworn to protect us are actually the ones selling us out for a few crumbs.
