Newbie Task (Second season, my journey thus far)

Holla Hivians, and my fellow newbies from the #newbieintiative, it's been one hell of a rollercoaster week for me, but I still try to put Hive forward because I mean, why not?

It will interest you guys to know that, it is after I am done with hive, that I will start coming to terms with reality to know what's actually going on around me lol… That's how addicted I am. Although, not as addicted as @abenad the engager because after I saw her screen time @digital.hub, I said quietly to myself, “Ese my dear, you dey learn work.”

You know, one sweet thing about hive is how the reward pool has no outrageous ROI. If you were active on web2 platforms in the time of MMM and other pyramid/Ponzi scheme, you'd understand perfectly what I'm talking about.

During those dark times, you'd be seeing adverts like invest a certain sum of money and get 50% ROI, some will even go as far as promising 100% ROI. So many unsuspecting victims with the Anini Spirit fell Victims.

Even me I fell victim too, in fact, at that time I lost so much money I was undergoing my 3 weeks NYSC (National Youth Service Corp) orientation in the course of serving my country.

I was so traumatized that I collapsed at the parade ground, and they rushed me to the camp clinic. Did I learn my lesson immediately?? That is a story for another day.

I did not attend the hive fest held in Ghana, but I learned more about hive being a web3 platform and how to make the most of it from @abenad excerpt on the @hive.ghana fest she attended.

On one of her post, she mentioned the speaker saying to them, if you invest the same energy you invest in web2 platforms on hive, you'd grow to greater heights on the Blockchain and the sky would be your starting point.

From that post, I started migrating gradually to hive, putting all my attention and effort here. At a point, I gathered so much information that I started giving my onboarder update, lol.

There was a time I wanted to dash her 7 hive and she was telling me the equivalent of 7 hive is 7 HBD… The way I shouted, "see this thief?”

She laughed so loud and said, “I thought you had no idea how the Blockchain works? How come you know the conversion rate?”

I responded to her that I'm not really 100% good at it, but I know 7hive can never be equivalent to 7HBD. So to avoid fight, I just sent her five thousand Naira.

So now let's get to the order of the day, which is answering a couple of questions from our newbie initiative class task 2.

Question 1

How is hive different from other social media platforms like web 2

a. The Web2 platform, which is also the current version of the internet, is mostly used by organization offering services in exchange for personal data. Facebook, X, Instagram etc… falls in this category.

On the other hand, Web3 refers to decentralized applications (DApps) which runs on the blockchain. It is a platform where its users can participate without compromising their privacy and ownership of data. This is where hive comes in.

b. Another example is that the web3 platform deals with originality, no one can steal your post and claim credit for it. This is the another sweetest part for me on hive because nothing is more painful in a creator's life than have someone steal your intellectual property and claim all the credit you are entitled to.

Unlike Hive, this is the order of the day on other social media platforms operating on web2.

c. There's no time frame to earning on web3 platform as your earnings are tied to your efforts, engagement and productive. Here, everyone operates on an equal pedestal. You must put in the work and engage your colleagues…

Then there's the web2 platform I'd like to tag with a popular phrase from my country, “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop”. We basically invest our time and resources utilizing the web2 platforms for its developers to live fat and enrich several other socialites, without those at the bottom getting even a crumb from the bread.

d. On hive, there's the true meaning of transparency and accountability. Every transaction, reward and engagements, are laid bare for the public to access.

BUT

We cannot get such luxury on the web2 platform, as it operates more like a secret cult.

Question 2

Vividly explain the following terminologies in your understanding.

a. Plagiarism
Similarly to what I cited on column b above, plagiarism is the copy and paste of an author's work without giving them due credit or recognition. It can also be said to be the poor or wrong citation of an author's work.

b. Vote begging
This is a situation whereby hivians solicit upvotes for their post. They either do it on the post, or privately on the discord server of other hivians.

c. Post recycling
What this mean is, applying some adjustments and changing few words of a previously published post, then posting it again as a new one. This is greatly frowned at on hive, and it can even get one a downvote.

Question 3

In what ways is the use of tags relevant to your post? Also, do you think that abuse of tags may attract downvote on your post? If yes or no, explain? Also list 5 general tags you know.

Tags basically give your post a wider categorized audience or visibility such that, when people search for certain words, your post pops up if it contains the tags they are searching for. More so, tags can also be tokenized, and you get to earn a token from some tags used on your post. Token tags are usually the last five tags.

With each post we make on hive, we are allowed to use ten tags. First five tags for category, while the last five are for tokens.

An abuse of these tags can attract a downvote because some tags are reserved for specific communities, and unless your write up is related to the community's content, do not use the tag else it becomes an abuse and your post might get downvoted as a penalty.

So far the general tags I am sure of which I use often are;
Neoxian
Archon
POB
VYB
CENT

Summary

Although I missed the last tutorial, I was able to meander my way with preexisting knowledge from my onboarder and small research. With that I was able to make use of some markdowns like bold, italic, headings, then bold and italics together.

PS
I would like to say a big thank you to the initiators of this program ❤️. Baby girl is really catching up fast 😌.

Above is my response to the newbie initiative prompt. Task 2.

Though I'm not a participant of the newbie initiative, I'm taking my time to read posts concerning it and they've been helpful, including yours
I just learned a new general tag "cent"

When I was introduced to Hive, my brother said "all your posts that are wasting on Facebook, come and post them here" I didn't understand till I joined.

if you invest the same energy you invest in web2 platforms on hive, you'd grow to greater heights on the Blockchain and the sky would be your starting point.

This has been my motto since joining Hive, I'm just a year plus here but most people think that I've been here for years because of my achievements. Sometime ago, I told a a fellow Hivian that I treat Hive as a business and she was surprised. If you are not showing up regularly either to create content, engage or even curate, omoh, na lagbaja you be because nothing for you. 😂
