FLAWLESS - MY THOUGHTS AND REVIEW.

As someone who was a victim of chauvinism, I related so well with the plot of this movie. I felt the emotions of the female lead, and honestly, it's one movie that left me in deep thought. The question of if we are opportuned to wealth, would we become givers or takers, was quite resounding, and it became the highlight of the movie for me.

THE PLOT

The movie started with a young lady who happens to be a reporter. She was seated in a restaurant and was joined by an elderly woman. The reporter started her voice recorder, and the old lady brought out a large cut diamond, one she confessed to have stolen in her previous employment. An information that sparked curiosity in the reporter, prompting her to question the old lady if she was in jail the whole time she'd been away. As the old lady, by name Miss Laura Quinn, went on to narrate her story from the 60s, she turned off the recorder as she continued with her experience.

Miss Quinn, while in her 40s back in the 60s, worked with London Diamonds Corporation, the biggest diamond dealers in the world at the time. She was the only female manager there, intelligent, audacious, and determined. Unfortunately, her intellectual prowess and capabilities went unnoticed by her employers, who for six times in a role had promoted her male subordinates while consciously skipping her. While Quinn struggled for recognition, she was soon briefed by the Janitor, Mr. Hobbs, that her appointment with London Diamonds has been secretly terminated. Quinn had a hard time believing Mr. Hobbs, but soon discovered that he was telling the truth when she traced her file and saw that her appointment had been terminated, an action that would be effective in the coming month.

An aggrieved Quinn went back to Mr. Hobbs, who let her in on a plan to steal some diamonds from the vault. The plan was to steal a small amount of diamond from the vault, something that would go unnoticed by the company but enough to give them a decent head start in life. Miss Quinn agreed to be part of Hobbs' sinister plan, by getting the combinations to the diamond vault from her employer's safe during one of their executive parties. While she succeeded, she was soon in for a shock when Mr. Hobbs went contrary to his words and stole the entire diamond, both cut and uncut, from the Vault. An action that wasn't taken lightly by the company, as they soon hired a private investigator to get to the root of the matter and uncover the culprit of the money heist.

MY THOUGHTS

I have always known that the world belongs to people who make time to plan well. I have also come to realize that planning well is planning effectively, which is almost foolproof. I used to always tell my friends who care to listen that life will happen and go well for anyone who is thorough in any plan to achieve their goals. It doesn't matter if the motive is good or not.

This theory we saw played out by the Mr. Hobbs character. An elderly man who was out for revenge against the head of the insurance syndicate, whose deliberate delay in covering his wife's medical bills led to her death. For years, Hobbs plotted, and when the opportunity presented itself through an aggrieved Miss Quinn, he became her puppet master, using her to pull off one of the biggest heists in history.

I really did enjoy this movie, but I felt it's a bit overplayed, especially the part where Quinn turned around to help the same company that terminated her appointment secretly. I do understand the martyr syndrome on her part, probably as a ploy to redeem herself and maybe gain favor from her bosses. But then, regardless of uncovering Mr. Hobbs' plans and recovering the diamonds, the company still did not see her for more than what they perceived her to be. Although she was reinstated, she was still not given the promotion that she deserved, prompting her resignation.

While I could live with her resigning, the next line of action she took was too good to be true, and I doubt that human nature is capable of such goodness.

Regardless, the twist in Mr. Hobbs's character was satisfactory, and I immediately saw the morals of the movie, which are: what is money if it cannot make the world a better place? Mr. Hobbs showed us that in the most surprising of ways.

It's a good movie, and I'd rate it 7/10.

I understand how you would think it was too good to be true with the way she went back to the same person she left. I think it’s a human thing though. She got something what she wanted from it in the end right and probably that’s all that mattered to her.

She carried all the ransom money and gave to charity. Including the diamond she stole. So if she gives everything away to Charity how does she survive knowing fully well she has no source of livelihood and is aged? She must have invested some for herself in reality.

I do love classic films. Always this raw air about them that most movies these days seem to lack. Will be adding this to my watchlist, for sure.🌺

Oh, Demi Moore... I've seen this movie before and I think it's very entertaining, and the acting is great. I've always liked Michael Caine. A great film director was also in charge, so the combination with the well-chosen cast could only end successfully.

There's much more to this film because it has a political undertone from the era in which it was set.

I still see a lot of sexism in the workplace here.

I would watch it again if I didn't have so many connection problems these days.

Sexism never went extinct, it was just toned down a bit with time. Yes, the movie is greatly political as well as borders on exploitation. Indeed it's a really diverse movie 🙂
