Identification of Aeolosoma✍🏻👨🏻‍🏫 / Identificacion de Aeolosoma 🔬 (En-Es)

Good morning, science-loving friends! Today we're going to process a sample of stagnant freshwater to identify the most important microorganisms we discover. Many of them have the great ability to grow in limited environments and with both excess and low nutrients. All of them almost always have survival mechanisms to adapt to various types of environmental situations. Regarding the worm, which belongs to the Aeolosomatidae family, we'll highlight its parts and ecology. These aquatic animals are common in various ecosystems and move thanks to the cilia on their cephalic lobe.💻✍🏻

These are the popular earthworms, in the specific case the (Aeolosomatidae) are aquatic however they have no problem moving in humid environments without being entirely aquatic! Being transparent they are widely used for the study of microscopy, this species I think it is (Aeolosoma sp) however I am not very sure and identifying them is quite difficult, I think that the color of the spots on the epidermis gives me the intuition that it is the mentioned species! They feed on algae, fine detritus, bacteria, they consist of a cephalic lobe and their body is segmented unlike nematodes now we will see this in greater detail.✍🏻👨🏻‍🏫🥽

The worm can be seen with the naked eye without using any type of zoom. This reveals that it is a somewhat large animal compared to other microorganisms; normally its size varies from 1 mm to 2 mm, no more than that!🪱🪱

These animals are called olichetes because their body is not a single functional structure, but rather is divided into segments. They have a cephalic lobe and an anal lobe (pygidium). They have a monostratified external structure and can have from 7 to 600 body segments, which varies depending on the species and size! They have two "dorsal and ventral" blood vessels. To see them, we would have to make a longitudinal section. Their central nervous system communicates with the skin. They usually reproduce asexually by budding.🧬🔬🥽

This species is common in freshwater, with many spots and moves with agility in the environment, the setae are external body segments with "hairs" that are used for the serpentine movement, they can crawl or swim at the same time, the ventral side where its mouth is has several cilia that help it feed, this species prefers waters full of organic matter.🔬🧬

Now a nematode?🧭🥽/Ahora un nematodo?🌍✍🏻

Nematodes are even smaller than water worms. In fact, these ones here are microscopic, and we can't see them with the naked eye! These species I photographed today are also free-living aquatic creatures and don't parasitize any organism, so there's nothing to fear. Notice that they have no segments and their bodies are complete! That's the main difference.🔬🪱📕

These unicellular organisms are also typical of organic stagnant waters. Due to their morphology, they may be the most studied organisms in a laboratory. They are mostly ciliated and quite small, measuring 0.33 mm. The cilia of these microorganisms have a "tactile" function as well as movement; they are quite fast. They have a macro- and micronucleus, as well as digestive vacuoles. They can reproduce both sexually and asexually, all depending on the environment they are in! They feed on yeast, algae, and bacteria.🔬💻

Phagotrophic Euglenids🥽✍🏻

Peranema.gif

Euglenozoa are free-living and common in stagnant waters. Their cells have flagella; in fact, this large retractable flagellum is their main identifying characteristic. They are abundant in waters rich in decomposition material. They do not have chloroplasts, so they cannot produce their own food. This means they must capture their food, which is generally bacteria and yeast.🔬⚗️👨🏻‍🏫

This species of Crucigenia algae is more specific and we see it in phytoplankton, they are colonies of flattened or rounded algae cells.💻🥽

I'm saving up to buy a really powerful microphone in July. Brutal posts are coming! I need one that costs 1000x or 2000x.
