Hello friends, lovers of travel and knowledge, today I'm going to transport you to the 18th century to learn a little about the famous "Battle of Vimeiro" which was literally the first Napoleonic invasion of Portugal. It is common to say that Napoleon was always recognized for his strategic ability, his great victories and conquests! But little is said about his defeats in Portugal. With "the collaboration of Spain," Napoleon entered our territory in the 18th century, fighting one of the most important battles in 1802, exactly in the village where I am. Hola amigos amantes de los viajes y el conocimiento, hoy te voy a transportar al siglo XVIII para aprender un poco de la famosa "batalla de Vimeiro" literalmente fue la primera invasion Napoleonica a Portugal, es comun que Napoleon siempre fue reconocido por su capacidad estrategica, sus grandes victorias y conquistas! pero poco se habla de sus derrotas en Portugal, con "colaboracion de Espana" Napelon ingreso a nuestro territorio en el XVIII librando una de las mas importantes batallas en 1802 exactamente en la aldea donde estoy, cuantos tenemos la suerte de estar en un lugar asi?💻🧭

The village is somewhat removed from the center of Lisbon—more than 60 km. When we arrived, I had the impression that it's an isolated area, giving the impression that time has stopped, but without any criticism. Everything was clean and well-maintained! There were quite a few elderly people; the typical retirement or vacation village. Apart from its rich Portuguese history, the entire area is famous for a series of trails. Some trails follow the paths taken by Napoleon's soldiers, and we can even see the battlefield where thousands of combatants from both sides died.⛪🏰🚙
La aldea es algo retirada del centro de Lisboa estamos hablando de mas de 60km, cuando llegamos tuve la impresion de que es una zona aislada, que da la impresion que se detuvo en el tiempo pero sin ningun tipo de criticas, todo estaba limpio y bien cuidado! bastante personas ancianas; la tipica villa de pensionados o de vacaciones, a parte de esa historia tan rica en cultura Portuguesa toda el area es famosa por un conjunto de Senderos, algunos senderos recorren los caminos por donde pasaron los soldados napoleonicos e inclusive podemos ver el campo de batalla donde murieron miles de combatientes de ambos bandos.💂🏻♂️👩🏻🏫
The village belongs to the municipality of Alcobaça, it is not a very old village and it is believed that in the prehistoric and Roman era people already lived here, the name "vime" is from a plant that is common in the area, in 1930 remains of an ancient civilization possibly from 1500 BC were found, there are also records that Germanic peoples passed through here, already in the era of the Christian conquests in the 10th and 11th centuries Henry recovered these lands and they were populated, marriages were used in a dispersed and isolated way throughout Vimeira.⛲🌍
La aldea pertenece al municipio Alcobaça, no es una villa muy antigua y se cree que en la era de la prehistoria y romana ya habitaban personas aqui, el nombre "vime" es de una planta que es comun en zona, en el ano 1930 se consiguieron restos de una antigua civilizacion de posiblemente 1500 antes de cristo, tambien hay registros que por aqui pasaron pueblos germanicos, ya en la era de las conquistas Cristianas en el siglo X y XI Henrique recupero estas tierras y fueron pobladas, se utilizaron matrimonios de forma dispersas y aislada por toda Vimeira.🏕️🌺

This toy soldier is a space outside the interpretive museum to pay homage to a "Christian saint" called Agostinho, the clothes of the Portuguese combatants were blue while the English ones were red, it was a wooden statue that represented the Christian saint of Lisbon whom they called Agostinho because the war was in the month of August, they carried him on a mule for each battle.⛲🌍

Local historians say that this house treated war wounded from the Battle of Vimeiros. I'm saddened by how the local municipal council has left sites of tourist and historical interest in such a state of disrepair.⛪🏰

This battle originated in 1806, Portugal and England fought together against France, and a passive ally that was Spain, they had 13,000 men while we a total of 19,000, the first battle took place in the town of Roliça and this battle was called: "Battle of Roliça", here the Portuguese defeated the French under the command of Wellesley, it was a strategic combat that ended up receiving a reinforcement of 2,000 men and 13 cannons from the offensive line of Torres Vedras.🗺️🏰
Esta batalla tuvo origen en 1806, combatio Portugal e inglaterra en conjunto contra Francia, y un aliado pasivo que fue Espana, ellos disponian de 13,000 hombres mientras nosotros un total de 19,000, la primera batalla se llevo a cabo en el pueblo de Roliça y esta batalla fue llamada: "Batalla de Roliça", aqui los Portugueses vencieron a los Franceses bajo el mando de Wellesley, fue todo un combate estrategico que acabo por recibir un refuerzo de 2000 hombres y 13canones desde la linea ofensiva de torres vedras.💂🏻♂️💥

The English troops lost 519 men, while the French lost approximately 1710. The English army's intervention began at the Battle of Roliça. Throughout history, England and Portugal were almost always allies in war against Spain and France. The key to this battle was Arthur Wellesley's strategic maneuvers, which knew how to handle the Portuguese terrain. This led to uncoordinated attacks by France. The museum exhibits all kinds of accessories and weapons that were used in the battle.💂🏻♂️💥
Las tropas inglesas perdieron 519 hombres mientras que los franceses 1710 aproximadamente, la intervension del ejercito ingles comenzo en la batalla de Roliça, durante toda la historia inglaterra y portugal casi siempre fueron aliados de guerra contra espana y francia. La clave de este combate fueron los movimientos estrategicos de Arthur Wellesley sabiendo manejar el terreno Portugues, esto llevo a ataques descordinados por parte de francia. desde dentro del museo tenemos una ventana que nos muestra el lugar exacto donde ocurrio el combate de Vimeira, fijense que de fondo se ven algunas montanas, anteriormente esta zona era muy irregular, la tropa aliada utilizo esas ventajas del terreno para posicionar los canones.⛲🌍
What a wonderful experience! I loved my visit to the warm and welcoming village of Vimeira. I learned a lot about the battle site! Today, the village continues to welcome tourists and also produces fruit, provides hospitality, and offers luxury hotels. It's not the place for expensive tourism; it's more modest.💂🏻♂️🧭👩🏻🏫
Que hermosa experiencia adore mi visita en la calida y acogedora villa de Vimeira, aprendi mucho del sitio de la batalla! hoy en dia la aldea continua recibiendo turistas y tambien se dedica a la produccion de frutas, en tema de hosteleria, y cosas de lujo hoteles, no es el sitio indicado para turismo costoso es algo mas humilde.🌺⛪🚙

Esta es de las publicaciones que más me gustan, aprendiendo de la historia de otros lugares. En la época de esa batalla los españoles tenían su propia guerra con los franceses, uno de los sitios más conocidos fue en mi ciudad Zaragoza y todos los años recrean esos episodios. Es curioso ver en tus fotografías los uniformes de los franceses, ya que los conozco bien por verlos en esas representaciones. En cambio el uniforme de los portugueses es mejor que el que llevaban nuestros antepasados, pues aquí fue el pueblo el que luchó mientras que las tropas profesionales fueron obligadas a quedarse mirando dentro de los cuarteles o huyeron. Un despropósito de los que gobernaban entonces. Siempre me pregunto por qué la península no termina siendo un único país, pero claro, la historia pesa y nadie quiere renunciar a lo que considera suyo. Espero que el pueblo siga conservando ese espíritu humilde con turismo de calidad. Muchas gracias por este reportaje tan completo, una lección de historia.

For me, the best battle of all was the one at Aljubarrota. The museum is fantastic. You can see skulls with wounds from medieval weapons, and the way the story is told was amazing.
Lo de los cráneos con heridas no suena muy estimulante, jajaja. Pero la mente curiosa ahora me pide buscar información sobre eso. Me retiro a la madriguera de conejo. 😜
