Never Had Such a Trip in My Life
Honestly am not a fan of travelling, till today am still amazed and wonder how people get to say "Travelling is my Hobby."How?
I had this quick journey recently and decided to share my experience, I don't like traveling but it had been a very long time since i last traveled so in a way i was glad i had to go on this trip and If anyone had told me that traveling from Makurdi to Eke would turn out to be the most adventurous and unforgettable journey of my life, I would’ve laughed it off but now, looking back, I honestly don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The journey to Eke started off rough, no exaggeration the road was in such a bad condition that it felt like we were traveling through the pages of a disaster novel. Every bump shook the vehicle so hard, I felt like my intestines and peripheral organs were tumbling against each other, It wasn’t even a long distance trip, but that road made it feel like we were traveling to another country. The road was full of red dust, It settled on every part of me, by the time we arrived Eke, I looked like someone who was just coming from a mining station,I was dusty, tired, and hungry. I didn’t even care anymore, I was just glad to have arrived alive.
But thankfully, the welcome was warm, that moment made everything else fade a little the smiles, the food, the comfort of being around people who felt like home,it was amazing.
The return trip though? That one deserves a Netflix series. The drama in transport doesn't end,I was squeezed in between two men who had pot belly's and a woman who was... I don’t even know how to say it politely, she was big, real big, her stomach was pressing against me like it had an agenda, i could barely breathe. Sleeping was impossible, every time I tried to rest my head, I felt like I was suffocating, that woman was after my peace, I gave up on comfort completely.
The driver was another drama, loud, aggressive, and funny in a disturbing way, he was shouting at everyone from other drivers to his own passengers. Before the trip began, a lady friend of mine told me to say a prayer,I was just about to raise my voice and commit everything to God when a loud argument broke out between the driver, some transport workers, and a few angry passengers who were tired of waiting and felt the journey was being delayed, I quickly swallowed the words before they came out. I thanked God I hadn’t started, they would’ve made a complete joke out of me. In the end, I didn’t pray because the atmosphere wasn’t right, I just told myself in my mind that we wouldn't die.
The man beside me kept dropping strange and funny things from his pocket,I won’t go into details, something else also happened, yes!, it was the man by my left he had his phone ringing and guess who was calling, the contact was saved "Makurdi palm wine" ,that explained the reason for his big tommy,i didn't laugh out but i couldn't stop smiling.
That journey was one for the books, even if the transit wasn't the best,I’d want to repeat it, at least I have an adventure story.
