We went to a nice café (ENG/SPA)
Hello, internet people, everything OK? Last week I went with my boyfriend to a nice cafe in my city. It was the first time we both went there so we were looking forward to see what the place would be like and the most important thing: their drinks and food (he's a bartender and I'm a chef, so you can imagine our curiosity from a professional point of view).

Era la primera vez que ambos asistíamos así que estábamos a la expectativa de como sería el lugar, y lo más importante, sus bebidas y comidas (él es bartender y yo chef, así que ya imaginarán nuestra curiosidad desde el punto de vista profesional)
That day I went to his house to help him with some of the refurbishment and then we went for lunch at this café. It's called Pistazie and the name and some of the dishes made me think that its concept is Italian (although the truth is not very well defined).
Ese día fui a su casa a ayudarlo con parte de la remodelación y después fuimos a almorzar a este café. Se llama Pistazie, y por el nombre además de algunos platillos me hizo pensar que su concepto es italiano (aunque la verdad no está muy bien definido)
The menu is quite extensive and so it took us quite a while to decide what to order. There were many eye-catching dishes, if I remember correctly there was a choice of pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, panini, various desserts, and hot and cold drinks. Of all the options, I chose a panino "reina pepiada" and my boyfriend a house pasta.
El menú es bastante extenso y por eso tardamos bastante en decidir que pedir. Habían muchos platillos llamativos, si mal no recuerdo había para elegir entre pizzas, hamburguesas, sándwiches, panini, postres varios, y bebidas calientes y frías. De todas las opciones, yo elegí un panino "reina pepiada" y mi novio una pasta de la casa.
The "Reina Pepiada" is a type of Venezuelan arepa whose filling is made of chicken and avocado, so the panino had its name precisely because of this filling, although it also had lettuce and bacon (there was a sandwich with the same name but instead of lettuce it had arugula and I don't like it) on the other hand, the pasta turned out to be a type of pasta alla carbonara.
La "Reina Pepiada" es un tipo de arepa venezolana cuyo relleno es a base de pollo y aguacate, así que el panino tenía su nombre precisamente gracias a este relleno, aunque también tenia lechuga y tocino (había un sándwich con el mismo nombre, solo que en vez de lechuga tenia rúcula y no me gusta) por otro lado, la pasta resultó ser un tipo de pasta al la carbonara.
The food was very tasty, both dishes, my only observation is that the portion of the carbonara was very small. It is a main course, not a starter so the amount was really very little, also, since they serve this pasta they should have metal cutlery and no, they only had plastic and no spoon. To eat a long pasta the most comfortable way is to eat with a fork and spoon but there were no spoons and the forks as I said before were made of plastic so it was uncomfortable.
La verdad la comida estaba muy rica, ambos platillos, mi única observación es que en cuanto a la carbonara, la porción era muy pequeña. Es un plato fuerte, no un entrante, así que la cantidad era de verdad muy poca, además, ya que sirven esta pasta deberían tener cubiertos de metal y no, solo tenían de plástico y sin cucharilla. Para comer una pasta larga lo más cómodo es comer con tenedor y cucharilla, pero no habían cucharillas y los tenedores como dije antes eran de plástico, asi que resultó incómodo
He also ordered a Jamaica water and I ordered a lemonade made with lemongrass. My lemonade was very good, however I think they might have lowered the amount of lemongrass a bit, as it tasted more like lemongrass than lemon, but apart from this observation, it was very good. On the other hand there were problems with the hibiscus water. On the one hand, the glass arrived at the table sunken (where part of the aesthetics of the drink was ruined) and on the other hand, Pedro (my boyfriend) made the remark that he wanted the Jamaica water "sweet enough" but when the drink arrived, it was plain.
Además él pidió un agua de Jamaica y yo una limonada de hierba buena. Mi limonada estaba muy buena, sin embargo creo que ha podido bajarle un poco a la cantidad de hierba buena, dado a que sabía más a hierba buena que a limón, lejos de esta observación, estaba muy buena. Por otro lado hubo problemas con el agua de Jamaica. Por una parte, el vaso llegó a la mesa hundido (donde parte de la estética de la bebida quedó arruinada) y además, Pedro (mi novio) Hizo la observación que quería el agua de Jamaica "suficientemente dulce" pero cuando llegó la bebida, estaba simple
When he made the observation to the waiter, he told him that they served it plain and that they gave sugar sachets to the customers, so that they could add sugar to taste. And here I found out that they had forgotten to put the sugar and the waiter wanted to get out of the way in this way because, nowhere are drinks served without sugar (except for coffee, and even then, not always). And besides, if this place served this simple drink, they should make the observation to the client so that he could decide whether to buy it or not and also he should bring the drink directly with the sugar sachets because according to him "they serve it without sugar".
Al hacerle la observación al mesero, este le dijo que la servían simple y que les daban sobres de azúcar a los clientes para que les pusieran azúcar al gusto. Y aquí supe que habían olvidado ponerle el azúcar y el mesero quiso salir del paso de esa manera ya que, en ningún lugar se sirven las bebidas sin azúcar (salvo el café, y aún así, no siempre) Y además, si en ese lugar sirvieran esta bebida simple, deben hacerle la observación al cliente para que decida si comprarla o no, y debía traer la bebida directamente con los sobres de azúcar ya que según él "la sirven sin azúcar"
In addition to that and in Pedro's words, this type of drinks are mixed with sugar (they should not be served plain) because the sugar does not dilute properly, leaving sugar residues. The correct thing to do is to make an infusion with the Jamaica and then make a light syrup with it and at the moment of serving the syrup is diluted in water, adding more or less quantity of this to make it more or less sweet depending on the taste of the client, thus avoiding the grains of sugar at the bottom and in fact when he added the sugar, he spent more than 10 minutes stirring the drink and even then it was not all diluted, so he could not drink a quarter of the drink.
En adición a eso y en palabras de Pedro, este tipo de bebidas se baten con el azúcar (no deben servirse simples) dado a que el azúcar no se diluye correctamente, quedando residuos de azúcar. Lo correcto es hacer una infusión con la Jamaica y posteriormente hacer un sirope ligero con él y al momento de servir el sirope se diluye en agua, agregándole más o menos cantidad de esta para hacerla más o menos dulce dependiendo del gusto del cliente, así se evitan los granos de azúcar en el fondo y es que en efecto cuando le agregó el azúcar, paso más de 10 minutos revolviendo la bebida y aun así no se diluyó toda, así que no pudo beberse un cuarto de la bebida
But far from those details, the place is very nice, the food is tasty and I really enjoyed the outing because we both spent a nice time together, plus we had the perfect opportunity to talk about our professions and share ideas. It was an excellent evening that will stay in my memory :3
Pero lejos de esos detalles, el lugar es muy lindo, la comida es rica y además disfruté mucho de la salida porque ambos pasamos un agradable tiempo juntos, además que tuvimos la oportunidad perfecta apara hablar de las profesiones de ambos y compartir ideas. Fue una excelente tarde que quedará en mi memoria :3
