The Winter of the World [Book Review] ESP/ENG
Hello everyone! How are you? Today I'm going to share my opinion about a book I just finished reading. It took me quite a while to finish because it's a thick book, with many pages, and difficult to process. It's not that it lacks a good structure or isn't easy to understand; I'm referring more to its content, which in some scenes becomes too dense and dark, even for my taste. I usually tolerate and enjoy horror books, but the problem is that the terror described in these pages is real, as it's based on the times of the Holocaust and World War II.
¡Hola Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? hoy voy a compartir con ustedes mi opinión acerca de un libro que acabo de leer, la verdad es que me llevó bastante tiempo porque es un libro grueso, con muchas páginas y difícil de procesar, no porque no tenga una buena estructura o no sea fácil de comprender, me refiero más bien a su contenido, el cuál en algunas escenas llega a ser demasiado denso y oscuro, incluso para mis gustos, que suelo tolerar libros de terror y disfrutarlos, pero el problema es que el terror que se narra en estas páginas es un terror real, ya que está basado en los tiempos del holocausto y la segunda guerra mundial.
The book tells the story of several families, each in a different geographical location: some in the USA, others in Russia, others in England, and some in Germany. Each family has a different perspective on the historical context in which they live, and as the landscape changes, so does the way some of these characters think. I understand this is the second book in a trilogy: the first narrated the events of the First World War, while this second book takes us (from the different characters' points of view) to learn how Hitler came to power through the Enabling Act in 1933, how the idea of supremacy developed and spread, and subsequently how the countries that decided to intervene to stop him reacted and took action.
El libro nos cuenta la historia de algunas familias, cada una en una ubicación geográfica diferente, algunos en USA, otros en Rusia, otros en Inglaterra y unos en Alemania. Cada uno de ellos con una visión diferente del contexto histórico en el que viven, y a medida que el panorama va cambiando también lo hace la manera de pensar de algunos de estos personajes. Tengo entendido que este es el segundo libro de una trilogía: el primero narraba los hechos de la primera guerra mundial, en este (el segundo) La historia nos lleva (desde el punto de vista de los distintos personajes) a conocer como fue que Hitler llegó al poder a través de la ley habilitante en 1933, como se fue desarrollando y extendiéndose la idea del supremasismo y posteriormente como fue la reacción y acción de los países que decidieron intervenir para detenerlo.

Lo que más me gustó fue la manera en que el autor entrelazó la vida de los personajes y sus historias (todas de ficción) con hechos y personajes de la vida real, fue como una manera de adentrarnos en la historia y conocerla desde adentro, los diferentes puntos de vistos nos muestran un panorama más amplio y objetivo, y al final de cuentas nos deja con varias interrogantes que nos ayudan a reflexionar ¿Quiénes realmente se benefician con las guerras? ¿Quiénes son los que más sufren? Los paises que decidieron intervenir ciertamente generaron un cambio y acabaron con la tiranía pero ¿Fueron realmente buenos o también hubo tiranía de su parte? Las monedas siempre tienen dos caras, así que hay que girarlas para tener un panorama más claro.
The characters are incredibly diverse and realistic; you love some and hate others, but astonishing changes in behavior also occur, always from a realistic perspective. Nothing happens randomly or for the sake of the plot. Another thing that strikes me about this author's narrative is his way of capturing your attention. At the beginning, the pace seems a bit slow, but it's necessary to give you context for the events that are about to unfold. In that initial phase, everything seems beautiful and idyllic, but you sense, almost as if you can see it, that something extraordinary and unpleasant is about to happen. Then, little by little, through the different characters (from their locations and contexts) as the plot and the years progress, we see how the landscape darkens, how everything degrades, consumed by war and the apathy of those who believe they own the lives of others simply because they have power. We see that in those circumstances, having money is useless if you don't have influence, and sometimes not even then. Some scenes are extremely harsh, graphic, and difficult to digest, but it is the reality of war, so it is necessary for the reader to know this.
Los personajes son muy variados y realistas, amas a unos y odias a otros, pero también surgen cambios de conducta asombrosos, siempre desde un enfoque realista, nada surge al azar o por conveniencia de la trama. Y otra cosa que me llama la atención de la narrativa de este autor es su manera de capturar tu atención, al inicio el ritmo parece un poco lento pero es necesario para darte contexto de los hechos que están por ocurrir. En ese inicio todo parece bello e idílico, pero se percibe, casi como si pudieras verlo, que algo extraordinario y desagradable va a pasar, y luego poco a poco, a través de los diferentes personajes (desde sus ubicaciones y contextos) a medida que avanza la trama y los años, vemos como el panorama se va oscureciendo, como todo se va degradando consumido por la guerra y la desidia de aquellos que se creen dueños de la vida de los demás solo porque tienen poder, vemos que en esas circunstancias, tener dinero no sirve de nada si no tienes influencias y veces ni siquiera así. Algunas escenas llegan a ser extremadamente duras, gráficas y difíciles de digerir, pero es la realidad de la guerra, así que es necesario que el lector lo sepa.

Excelente libro, hermanita, así es, tiene escenas muy crudas pero aunque son de ficción, formaron parte de una cruda realidad que ojalá lamentablemente está sucediendo de nuevo en paises en guerra, ojalá ya nunca más la humanidad tenga guerras.
