My Favorite Scenes in Horror Movies [ESP/ENG]
Hello, hello, people of the internet! How are you? Today I'm here with a selection of scenes that, while some of them may not have aged well, were defining for me at the time, and although they terrified me, they became my favorites and made me love this genre of film.
¡Hola Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? Hoy vengo con una selección de escenas que, aunque algunas de ellas a lo mejor no han envejecido bien, para mi fueron determinantes en su momento y aunque me aterrorizaron, se convirtieron en mis preferidas y me hicieron amar este género en películas.

When this movie was released (I'm referring to the 1990 version) I wasn't even born, but that didn't stop me from watching it in later years on TV. In fact, I think this was the first movie I saw about zombies, and it made me define them as my favorite horror creatures 😄. I even became obsessed with them and included them in my drawings when I was a child. Okay, don't look at me like that, but it's true 😂. Well, the fact is that when I watched this movie as a child, the scene that impacted me the most was the one in the cemetery, when the two siblings go to visit their mother's grave and suddenly a "weird guy" appears walking in a zigzag pattern, clear evidence of what he really was. The fact is that the zombie in question attacks the brother and then chases the sister, who takes refuge in the car. That scene is full of adrenaline and made the hairs on my skin stand up.
Cuando esta película se estrenó, (me refiero a la versión de 1990) yo ni siquiera había nacido, pero eso no impidió que yo pudiera verla en años posteriores en retransmisiones que hicieron en la televisión, de hecho creo que esta fue la primera película que vi sobre zombies y que me hizo definirlos como mis criaturas de horror preferidas 😄, hasta llegué a obsesionarme con ellos y los incluía en mis dibujos cuando era niña, ok, no me miren así pero es cierto 😂. Bueno, el caso es que cuando yo veía esta película cuando era niña, la escena que más me impactaba era la del cementerio, cuando los dos hermanos van a visitar la tumba de su madre y de pronto aparece un "tipo raro" caminando en zig zag, una clara evidencia de lo que era en realidad, el caso es que el zombie en cuestión ataca al hermano y luego persigue a la hermana, la cuál se refugia en el carro. Esa escena está llenísima de adrenalina y hacía que se me erizaran los vellos de la piel.

Wow! You can't deny that this scene is great, but what makes it so good is its excellent handling of terror. First of all, they drag out the suspense for too long while showing us Joaquin Phoenix's astonished face in close-up, and this makes us very curious to know what he's looking at. But then, when they show us what's happening, what generates even more panic in the scene when the aliens appear on screen is that it's a home video, something that adds a lot of realism to the scene, coupled with the screams of the children who appear on screen at that moment and the journalist's warning that what we're about to see could be disturbing. The fear of the unknown, of the bizarre, plays a very important role here. But how could I not like the way the tension and terror are handled in this film? It was directed by none other than the great M. Night Shayamalan.
¡Uff! No me van a negar que esta escena es buenísima, pero lo que la hace tan buena es el gran manejo del terror que tiene, en primer lugar alargan demasiado la expectación mientras nos muestran en primer plano el rostro asombrado de Joaquin Phoenix, y esto hace que nosotros sintamos mucha curiosidad por saber que es lo que está mirando, pero luego cuando nos muestran lo que pasa, lo que genera más pánico en la escena cuando aparecen los aliens en pantalla, es que se trata de un video casero, algo que le aporta muchísimo realismo a la escena, aunado a los gritos de los niños que aparecen en pantalla en ese momento y a la advertencia de la periodista que dice que lo que estamos a punto de ver podría ser perturbador. Aquí juega un papel muy importante el miedo a lo desconocido, a lo bizarro. Pero ¿Cómo no iba a gustarme la manera en la que se maneja la tención y el terror en esta película? Si fue dirigida nada más y nada menos que por el gran M. Night Shayamalan.

As some of you may know—because I’ve said it many times—one of my favorite directors is James Wan, thanks to his excellent command of the horror genre. Being Asian, Wan employs techniques that go beyond jump scares or screamers to generate fear; he uses more organic methods, such as incorporating analog horror—you know, those bizarre elements that make us wonder in fear, “Why is he doing that?” 😲—and that’s how I felt in the scene from Insidious 1 when the mother is outside taking out the trash and suddenly hears music inside the house, music she didn’t play, and then she sees a ghost child dancing frantically to “Tip-Toe Thru the Tulips” sung in Tiny Tim’s eccentric voice. God! That scene literally made me scream in the theater. I think this scene is scary for several reasons: first, because you know you’re going to see something you won’t like but you don’t know what; second, the boy dances and has fun to show he’s at ease and revels in others’ terror; and third, you’d never have imagined seeing a ghost dance—maybe he’d just appear suddenly, but what I love most about James Wan is that these kinds of scenes are completely unpredictable. By the end, as a viewer, you’d have thot the boy was hiding under the furniture, not that he’d suddenly pop out from the top.
Como quizá algunos de ustedes sepan porque lo he dicho muchas veces, uno de mis directores preferidos es James Wan, por su excelente dominio del género terror, al ser asiático Wan utiliza recursos que van más allá de los jumps scares o los Screamers para generar miedo, él usa recursos más orgánicos como la incorporación de terror analógico, ya saben esos elementos bizarros que nos hacen preguntarnos con miedo ¿Por qué está haciendo eso? 😲 y así me sentí en la escena de Insidius 1 cuando la madre está afuera sacando la basura y de pronto escucha música dentro de la casa, música que ella no reprodujo, y de pronto ve a un niño fantasma bailando frenéticamente al ritmo de "Tip top to the tulipane" cantada por la excéntrica voz de Tiny Tim. ¡Dios! Esa escena literalmente me hizo gritar en el cine. Creo que esta escena asusta por varias razones: en primer lugar porque sabes que vas a ver algo que no te gustará pero no sabes qué, en segundo el niño baila y se divierte para demostrar que está a gusto y se regocija en el terror de los demás, y tercero, jamás te hubieses imaginado ver a un fantasma bailar, quizá tal vez que apareciera de repente y ya, pero lo que más me gusta de James Wan es que este tipo de escenas no son predecibles para nada, ya al final de ella tú como espectador hubieses pensado que el niño estaría escondido en la parte de abajo del mueble, no que saliera de repente de la parte de arriba.

Just by watching the scene I don't have to add anything else because it's obvious, it's bizarre, it's unique, it's simply terrifying, in fact it seems to me to be the only memorable scene in the entire film, but what gives it that extra touch of terror is that the film is made in found footage format, so this helps you get more into context, as if you were part of the film, so just imagining that one was there too, live and direct watching such a grotesque scene makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, 'what do you think?
Con tan solo ver la escena no tengo ni que añadir nada más porque resulta evidente, es bizarra, es única, es sencillamente espantosa, de hecho me parece la única escena memorable de toda la película, pero lo que le da ese toque extra de terror es que la película está hecha en formato found footage, así que esto te ayuda a entrar más en contexto, como si tú formases parte del filme, así que de tan solo imaginar que uno estuviese allí también, en vivo y en directo viendo esa escena tan grotesca se me erizan los vellos de la nuca, 'ustedes qué opinan?

Holaaa, si te soy sincera no me atreví a reproducir ninguna de las escenas luego de tu descripción jjajajs, aunque no he visto muchas pelis de terror si llega ver alguna de las que mencionaste recordaré la escena que mencionaste, gracias por compartir 💕🌸
Great article, haven't seen any of them aside from signs which only after watching the clip I remember. For me the scenes that stick to me generally are just super disturbing. The head banging scene in Talk To Me, the knife scene in Bring Her Back, The cliff scene in Midsommar just to name a few. Those will stick with me forever.
