Be warned that this post i not only gonna be full of landscapes and beautiful shots, but also kinda historical.

The City on the Hills

So last time we saw the outskirts of the city, parts of the city itself, landscapes and my visually pleasing and tasty ice cream. Now let’s talk about the Elephant in the Room and that’s the medieval fortress inside of Veliko Tarnovo.

Honestly when a representative has to talk about Bulgaria we don’t speak much about the capital. I mean we do, but when it’s about Landmarks we mention the St. Alexander Nevski Church, but the one Landmark that Bulgaria is known for is the Tsarevets Fortress.

Have in mind that this is gonna be the outskirt-scape part and then we gonna explore it from the inside. What you are gonna witness now is a backwards walk, because i want you to see how big actually is the whole fortress from perspective and also, because i managed to make some long exposure shots from afar in this not so welcoming weather. Enjoy! 😄

A Living History Book

Okay fellas you’ve reached the second chapter of my post and let’s explore parts of the fortress and some important historical landmarks.

Before we do i have to warn you i had to use old photos which i found on my old phone which were probably from a School trip, because in the most recent photos i didn’t have time to go into the fortress so i found some old stash that could show you the insides of it so don’t get confused if the weather drastically changes so the quality.

This Fortress was the stronghold of the second Bulgarian Empire and we talk about the timeframe of 1185 to 1396.

During this golden age Tsarevets was basically the political and cultural center of Bulgaria and by the look of it you could say it looked and still looks glorious til this day until lately fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in 1393 which basically marks the end of the Second Bulgarian Empire.

For last of the Fortress i found two photos of the what we call a Patriarchy Church or an Orthodox Church?

Im not sure how exactly some people call it, but it’s basically an independent church that is ruled by a Patriarch.

Next stop is gonna be something familiar if you paid attention from my previous post and is the huge Monument in the middle from the big scary view from the center of the hill of the city and it’s callex Monument Asenevci or The Monument of the Horsemen Asenevci which is basically a dedication of the Bulgarian Tsars.

Just to know i still have to apologise for the quality i tried putting some filters to make the photos more appealing, but these shots were taken with my IPhone X like years ago so give me some slack.

Last stop is what’s next of the Monument and it’s an Art Gallery going under the name of Boris Denev from which i also found some shots.

IMG_2347.jpeg

Please if you ask me i really don’t remember anything about this Gallery except that it’s 100 years old. Oh and the paintings and the figures i can definitely not name them, but i can definitely say that they represent a historical and traditional art.

Cityscape Shots

Okay fellas this is the last stop which is accents and for the first time imma write something in this part, because i actually have a couple random photos from the old town part.

The first 2 photos is a direct landscape of the old town part of the city and the accent is directly on the Cathedral Temple - Nativity which in the informative way is not something special except is beautiful and old.

IMG_2355.jpeg

IMG_2356.jpeg

IMG_2357.jpeg

The rest of photos are shots from the old town and i really wish i could’ve showed you more, but that’s all i could find.

IMG_2362.jpeg

Fellas this is the end of the post i hope i didn’t make it very long and too boring informatively, because not many people like history, but just the marks of it which is totally okay in my opinion.

Anyway i hope I satisfied your eyes and see you till next time. 👋🏻😄

What an interesting place for a visit! I was expecting Veliko Trnovo to be much closer to the capital, but after looking at the map, it appears that it's not. I suppose it's hard to get to this place "by accident", but it's definitely worth visiting!

It's good to see that the fortress is very well-preserved, and even the walls around it look great! When I compare it with some of the castles here in Spain, the one that you shared looks much better... I know that the time differences can be huge, but still, it's always nice to see pieces of history still standing!

Thanks for sharing!
