Especially what I bring you in this post, is the Orient in Buenos Aires, because it turns out that in the capital of Argentina we have spaces that are dedicated to certain cultures and in this case we will walk through the beautiful Japanese culture, represented in a dreamlike garden.

Hola, mis queridas amigas y amigos de Pinmapple y de Hive, es un placer estar una vez más por aquí compartiendo con ustedes un nuevo destino y esta vez estamos adentrándonos en Buenos Aires. Especialmente lo que le acercarles en este post, es Oriente en Buenos Aires, porque resulta que en la capital de Argentina tenemos espacios que están dedicados a ciertas culturas y en este caso pasearemos por la preciosa cultura japonesa, representada en un jardín de ensueño.

Japanese Garden

Let's start with the Japanese Garden, a place that I highly recommend to visit whether you are from other provinces of Argentina or you are from Buenos Aires. If you are a foreigner, if you live there or if you are a tourist, even I think that for locals it is also a very nice place to visit, because it allows you to get away from reality and get away from the city. In fact, the Japanese Garden is in the Federal Capital, but somehow it manages to take your mind to a natural, calm place. It's like being in everyday life and going to take your Yoga class (for those who practice, you know what I mean).

A fundamental fact about this Buenos Aires attraction is that if you are over 65 years old, the entrance to this Garden is free. Yes, just as you are reading it, it is free, so you can easily go and visit and if not currently I am talking about in June 2023 it is costing 700 Argentine pesos. The entrance ticket is not expensive for what you are going to see inside the Japanese Garden.

Jardín Japonés

Vamos a empezar con el Jardín Japonés, un lugar que recomiendo al cien por ciento visitar seas de otras provincias de Argentina o bien seas de Buenos Aires. Si eres extranjero, si vives allí o si eres un turista, incluso yo creo que para los locales también es un lugar muy bonito para visitar, pues permite abstraerse de la realidad y alejarse un poco de la ciudad. De hecho, el Jardín Japonés está en lo que es Capital Federal, pero de alguna manera logra que lleves tu mente hacia un lugar natural, de calma. Es como estar en la vida cotidiana e ir a tomar tu clase de Yoga (para quienes practican, saben a lo que me refiero).

Un dato fundamental de esta atracción de Buenos Aires es que si tienes más de 65 años, el ingreso a este Jardín es gratuito. Sí, así como lo estás leyendo, es gratis, así que puedes tranquilamente ir a visitar y si no actualmente te estoy hablando en junio del 2023 está saliendo 700 pesos argentinos. El ticket de entrada no es costoso para lo que vas a ver dentro del Jardín Japonés.

Basically what is here is a whole architecture corresponding to a large green space where flowers, trees, ornaments, decorations, ornaments, everything that has this space of course corresponds to Japanese culture. In this place there is also a beautiful lake where there are fish that have been imported, that is to say that they are typical fish, characteristic of Japan; and you will also see different bridges that cross this lake and that lead you to small islands that are in this garden.

Once you enter the garden, the tour is, we could say, circular, because although there are some paths, or some nooks and crannies, you continue walking in a circle until you close the path.

In this visit I learned about a very beautiful concept, which is a concept that I learned about in this garden called Ikigai. Ikigai is the purpose that each person has in his life, it is truly something wonderful that in a small word really means many things, at least to see if one translates it into English. I do not know if you have noticed that there are languages that have perhaps one word to refer to something very specific, while in another language, for the same thing, a whole phrase is needed, because this happens with Ikigai.

According to the website El Español, Ikigai:

comes from the combination of 'iki' (which comes from the verb 'ikuru' and means daily life) and 'gai' (meaning courage), it is usually translated as 'the happiness of always being busy' or 'that which makes life worth living'.

Básicamente lo que hay aquí, es toda una arquitectura correspondiente a un gran espacio verde en donde las flores, los árboles, los ornamentos, los adornos, todo lo que tiene este espacio por supuesto que corresponden a la cultura japonesa. En este lugar además, hay un lago precioso en donde hay peces que han sido importados, es decir que son peces típicos, característicos de Japón; y también vas a ver diferentes puentes que atraviesan este lago y que te conducen a pequeñas islas que se encuentran en este jardín.

Una vez que vos ingresas al Jardín, el recorrido es, podríamos decir que circular, ya que si bien hay algún que otro camino, o algún un recoveco, continúas transitándolo en círculo hasta cerrar el sendero.

En esta visita conocí un concepto muy bonito, que es lugar hay un concepto que conocí en este jardín y que se llama Ikigai. Ikigai, viene a ser el propósito que tiene cada persona en su vida, es verdaderamente algo maravilloso que en una pequeña palabra viene a significar realmente muchas cosas, por lo menos ver si uno le traduce al español. No sé si han notado que hay lenguas que tienen quizás una palabra para referirse a algo muy puntual, mientras que en otro idioma, para lo mismo, se necesita una frase entera, pues esto ocurre con Ikigai.

Según la página El Español, Ikigai:

proviene de la combinación de ‘iki’ (que proviene del verbo ‘ikuru’ y significa vida diaria) y ‘gai’ (que significa valor), se suele traducir como ‘la felicidad de estar siempre ocupado’ o ‘aquello que hace que valga la pena vivir la vida’.

Another very important characteristic of this park is that there are trees that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima; there is a space where it is explained that these trees have been donated to the Japanese Garden, and that they are some of the surviving specimens of that dreadful event generated by the same human being.

Another beautiful thing that I did not know is that in Japanese culture there is a good luck fish called Koinobori. It is a fish that flutters like a flag in different places and does so for the welfare and peace of the people. Here you can see it in one of the photos of this little fish in the Japanese Garden.

Here you can also enjoy the Bonsai, which are these very perfect mini trees; they are like specimens of huge trees in real life, although the bonsai are of course "in real life", but they are created so that the tree grows in the same shape but in a miniature size, something very nice that I love; I had also seen it in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and now I could enjoy it once again.

Otra característica muy importante en este parque, es que aquí se encuentran árboles que sobrevivieron al bombardeo atómico de Hiroshima; se trata de un espacio en donde se explica que esos árboles han sido donados al Jardín Japonés, y que son algunos de los ejemplares sobrevivientes de ese espantoso evento generado por el mismo ser humano.

Algo también muy bonito que yo no conocía, es que en la cultura japonesa existe un pez de la buena suerte llamado Koinobori. Es un pez que flamea como una bandera en diferentes lugares y que lo hace por el bienestar y la paz de las personas. Aquí lo pueden ver en una de las fotos a este pececito que se encuentra en el Jardín Japonés.

Aquí también podrás disfrutar de los Bonsai, que son estos mini árboles muy perfectos; son como ejemplares de árboles enormes en en la vida real, aunque los bonsai claro que están “en la vida real”, pero están creados para que el árbol crezca en su misma forma pero en un tamaño miniatura, algo muy bonito que me encanta; también lo había visto en el jardín botánico de Brooklyn y ahora pude disfrutarlo una vez más.

It really is a place you can not miss, that is, there are many people who prioritize for example if they go to a big city like Buenos Aires, they put first the fact of going to a shopping mall, walking around the city, and of course if you go two or three days there are other things to see, perhaps more iconic or more emblematic that people and tourists are eager to know, such as the Plaza de Mayo, Plaza de Congreso, the Obelisk and highly urban sectors; but the Japanese Garden if you have a day, I recommend it.

Realmente es un lugar que no te puedes perder, o sea hay muchas personas que priorizan por ejemplo si van a una gran ciudad como es Buenos Aires, colocan primero el hecho de ir quizás a un centro comercial, caminar por la ciudad, y claro que si vas dos o tres días hay otras cosas para ver, quizás más icónicas o más emblemáticas que la gente y los turistas ansían conocer, como por ejemplo la plaza de Mayo, la Plaza de Congreso, el obelisco y sectores sumamente urbanos; pero el Jardín Japonés si tienes un día, yo te lo recomiendo.

There are also restrooms, which when you are traveling and walking around, you don't have a restroom nearby and you have to go to a cafeteria. Well, in this Garden you can also take advantage of that and rest, nothing better for your body and mind.

Son aproximadamente entre dos y tres horas que puedes llegarte a demorar recorriendo este bonito lugar y además puedes sentarte a respirar un poco de aire fresco para descansar. También tienes baños, que por ahí cuando uno está viajando y paseando, no tiene un baño cerca y tienes que ir a una cafetería. Bueno, en este Jardín también puedes aprovechar para eso y hacer tu descanso, nada mejor para tu cuerpo y para tu mente.

This destination that you can visit in Buenos Aires, can be done easily in one day, and you can get there by bus from the micro center. It is an excellent option to combine with Chinatown, and in that case I recommend you to go first to Chinatown and then to the Japanese Garden.

So also to keep in mind that if you really want to visit these places, it is not necessary to have a full day to do so, but you can do it by going a couple of hours to each one.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Japanese Garden closes at 6:00 in the evening, so I recommend going in the morning.

Este destino que puedes conocer en Buenos Aires, se pueden realizar tranquilamente en un día, y puedes llegar allí en bus desde el micro centro. Es una excelente opción para combinar con el Barrio Chino, y en ese caso te recomiendo que vayas primero al Barrio Chino y luego al Jardín Japonés.

Así que también para tener en cuenta de que si tienes muchas ganas de conocer estos sitios, no es que necesario que dispongas de un un día completo para poder ello, sino que puedes hacerlo yendo un par de horas a cada uno.

Un dato a tener en cuenta es que el Jardín Japonés cierra a las 6:00 de la tarde; por lo tanto recomiendo ir en la mañana.
