Come to visit Es Vedrá: Magic and Mystery in Ibiza

Hello dear friends of Hive and this time of WorldMapPin. This time I bring you some pictures taken in a strategic point of Ibiza that has recently been closed by the locals due to the amount of people that were going and especially because during the summer 2024 the site, in principle point of connection with the island and reflection, happened to start approaching the parties that Ibiza offers, welcoming a guy who makes mojitos and singers with drums and other musical instruments.

No one knows better than the Ibicencos which way the move goes once it starts, and after leaving this space open for years to allow visitors to see the famous Es Vedrá, they have decided to close the space with stones, both for pedestrians and vehicles.

It is also somewhat disconcerting that they close this and that these are private lands, as it is pure nature overlooking a natural reserve that is Es Vedra.

Ven a conocer Es Vedrá: Magia y Misterio en Ibiza

Hola amigos queridos de Hive y en esta ocasión de WorldMapPin. En esta oportunidad les traigo unas fotos tomadas en un punto estratégico de Ibiza que recientemente ha sido cerrado por los vecinos debido a la cantidad de gente que estaba yendo y especialmente porque durante el verano 2024 el sitio, en principio punto de conexión con la isla y de reflexión, pasó a empezar a acercarse a las fiestas que ofrece Ibiza, recibiendo a un chico que hace mojitos y a cantantes con tambores y otros instrumentos musicales.

Nadie mejor que los ibicencos conoce por dónde va la movida una vez que empieza, y después de dejar este espacio abierto durante años para permitir que los visitantes pudieran ver a la famosa Es Vedrá, han decidido cerrar el espacio con piedras, tanto para peatones como para vehículos.

Es algo desconcertante igualmente que cierren esto y que esos sean terrenos privados, pues es naturaleza pura que tiene vista a una reserva natural que es Es Vedrá.

Luckily, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit this site in October 2024, just a few weeks before my work on the island ended.

Es Vedra is an island that would have to be practically destroyed to be inhabited.

This site holds dozens of stories, myths and anecdotes, which invite anyone visiting Ibiza to go and see this place. They say that the best way to see it is from a boat, and many people claim to have seen from the sea, the face of Tanit -the goddess of Ibiza- drawn by the rocks of Es Vedra.

Other stories tell that there are people living inside the islet and others claim that it is a direct connection with the disappeared and in theory mythical Atlantis.

None of this has scientific certainty, but a few years ago there was a verified event that the authorities had to act upon: Es Vedra was filled with goats.

Nobody knows very well where they came from, but what is certain is that little by little they began to see goats on the island.

It puzzles me a little more now that I'm just watching the Apple TV series: Severance, where there are nothing more and nothing less than goats in a place that nobody knows what they do. Now I can think of some ideas to contribute to the popular discourse and legend of what may be happening in Es Vedrá.

Por suerte, tuve la fortuna de poder visitar este sitio en octubre de 2024, justo unas semanas antes de que terminara mi trabajo en la isla.

Es Vedrá es una isla que para ser habitada debería ser prácticamente destruida.

Este sitio se guarda decenas de historias, mitos y anécdotas, que invitan a quien visite Ibiza, ir a ver este lugar. Dicen que la mejor manera de verlo es desde un barco, y muchas personas aseguran haber visto desde el mar, el rostro de Tanit -la diosa de Ibiza- dibujado por las rocas de Es Vedrá.

Otras historias cuentan que hay gente viviendo dentro del islote y otros aseguran que es una conexión directa con la desaparecida y en teoría mítica Atlantis.

Nada de esto tiene certeza científica, pero hace algunos años sí hubo un acontecimiento verificado y sobre el que tuvieron que actuar las autoridades: Es Vedrá se llenó de cabras.

Nadie sabe muy bien de dónde salieron, pero lo cierto es que poco a poco empezaron a ver cabras en la isla.

Me desconcierta un poco más ahora que justo estoy viendo la serie de Apple TV: Severance, en donde hay nada más y nada menos que cabras en un sitio que nadie sabe a qué se dedica. Ahora se me ocurren algunas ideas para aportar al discurso y leyenda popular de lo que puede estar pasando en Es Vedrá.

It is not only about seeing this piece of land emerging from the Mediterranean Sea, but it is also about seeing one of the most powerful sunsets of your life. I'm not exaggerating, really, if there is something that characterizes Ibiza are its beautiful sunsets, and seeing it with Es Vedra in the background, well... it's really another level.

In my case I was very lucky, because I almost didn't know Es Vedrá, since I didn't have a way to get there and you need a car. But a friend, Nati, invited me to go with her and her boyfriend, so I did not hesitate for a second to say yes, even though I was really tired because of work, which demanded 4 hours of travel per day to go and return (4 hours in total).

Aquello desde lo misterioso y subjetivo, pero hay una gran parte sumamente real y es que el mirador de Es Vedrá e sino de los puntos más impactantes de Ibiza.

No se trata solo de ver esta porción de tierra emergiendo desde el Mar Mediterráneo, sino que además se trata de ver uno de los atardeceres más poderosos de tu vida. No exagero, de verdad que si hay algo que caracteriza a Ibiza son sus hermosos atardeceres, y verlo con Es Vedrá de fondo, bueno… es realmente otro nivel.

En mi caso tuve mucha suerte, pues casi no conozco Es Vedrá, ya que no tenía cómo llegar y se necesita sí o sí coche. Pero una amiga, Nati, me invitó a ir con ella y su novio, por lo que no dudé ni un sólo segundo en decir que sí, más allá de que estaba realmente cansada por el trabajo, que me demandaba 4 horas de viaje por día para ir y volver (4 horas en total).

That sunset, as you can see in the photos, was magical. And I won't use too many words to describe it because I did a thorough capture of it.

What I do recommend is to pay attention to the following:

• The relief of Es Vedra and its surrounding islet that stands out with the backlit effect.
• The movement of the water at the foot of this island, that although it is a photo, the movement is evident.
• The colors of the sky
• The dramatism of the sun behind Es Vedrá
• The little boat between Es Vedrá and Ibiza
• The people gathered together, which is nice, but at the same time if it gets out of control it can be chaos.

Aquel atardecer, como pueden ver en las fotos, fue mágico. Y no utilizaré demasiadas palabras para describirlo porque hice una captura minuciosa del mismo.

Lo que sí les recomiendo, es prestar atención a lo siguiente:

• El relieve de Es Vedrá y de su islote aledaño que se destaca con el efecto a contraluz
• El movimiento del agua a los pies de esta isla, que aunque sea una foto, el movimiento es evidente
• Los colores del cielo
• El dramatismo del sol detrás de Es Vedrá
• El barquito entre Es Vedrá e Ibiza
• La gente reunida, lo cual es bonito, pero al mismo tiempo si eso se sale de control puede ser un caos

I know that many photos may look “the same”, but the truth is that they are not. They were taken in more than an hour and if you look closely, you will see that the play of light and shadow vary, along with the shades of the sky and clouds.

Sé que muchas fotos pueden parecer “iguales”, pero lo cierto es que no lo son. Fueron tomadas en más de una hora y si observan atentamente, verán que los juegos de luces y sobras varían, junto con las tonalidades del cielo y con las nubes.
