I have just completed the first ten chapters of the first season of The Handmaid's Tale. A story where it is implied that in times where we take for granted that technology is advancing and human rights are gaining strength every day or reaching their peak, anything can happen. There is a lot of rawness in the content of this series. In the first season and the only one I have seen so far, we are shown, first of all, a modern society with a highly repressive and hostile government system.

In this first panorama that I present about the series and according to what I saw, everything appears deformed. It starts from an apparently normal contemporary reality but then, in that same contemporary society, the sophisticated coexists with the worst barbarism in the world. Could it be that the future distances us from the tyrannies of the past or rather, without realizing it, brings us closer with a new appearance? Believe me, this is how tense my thoughts were after only ten chapters.

At first it was not easy for me to unravel the content of the story. We are used to, or at least I am, to seeing linear structures in every movie. But, when it comes to flashback or a back and forth in times, I get very confused. In a nutshell, we must pay attention in order to thread the plot without getting lost in the attempt.

Acabo de completar los primeros diez capítulos de la primera temporada de El Cuento de las Criadas. Una historia donde se da a entender que en tiempos donde damos por hecho que la tecnología avanza y los derechos humanos cada día cobran más fuerza o alcanzan su cúspide, cualquier cosa puede pasar. Hay mucha crudeza en el contenido de esta serie. En la primera temporada y la única que he visto hasta ahora, nos muestran en primer lugar, una sociedad moderna con sistema de gobierno altamente represivos y hostiles.

En este primer panorama que presento sobre la serie y de acuerdo a lo que vi todo aparece deformado. Se parte desde una realidad contemporánea aparentemente normal pero luego, en esa misma sociedad contemporánea lo sofisticado convive con la peor barbarie del mundo. ¿Será que el futuro nos aleja de las tiranías del pasado o más bien sin darnos cuenta nos acerca con nueva apariencia? Créanme que así de tenso fue mi pensamiento con apenas diez capítulos visto.

Al principio no me fue fácil desentrañar el contenido de la historia. Estamos acostumbrados, o al menos yo, a ver estructuras lineales en cada película. Pero, cuando se trata de retrospección o un ir y venir en los tiempos, me confundo mucho. En pocas palabras, debemos prestar atención para ir hilando la trama sin perderse en el intento.

The environment which we can see represented in each face of the characters is described with that cold and intense air, opaque colors full of suspense and drama, clearly conveys the adverse message of society.

The costumes are loaded with a lot of symbolism. It fits perfectly to the plot, the monochromatic colors define each group according to the role that corresponds to them. The same is perceived with the musicalization.

Lo señalado anteriormente bien se describe en la tercera imagen. Desde aquí se lee perfectamente la sociedad que convive dentro de la obra.

El ambiente el cual podemos ver representado en cada rostro de los personajes se describe con ese aire frío e intenso, colores opacos llenos de suspenso y dramatismo, transmite claramente el mensaje adverso de la sociedad.

El vestuario está cargado de mucha simbología. Se ajusta perfectamente a la trama, los colores monocromáticos define a cada grupo de acuerdo al rol que le corresponde. De igual manera se percibe con la musicalización.

In The Handmaid's Tale each character, although not well defined in the first season, tells her own story. It can be inferred that behind each of them there is a reason and a hidden mystery.

In general, it tells the story of a modern society where the regime of religious government is totally inhuman. It is explicit that the upper class has greater influence and given their power they play with people's lives as they see fit.

Religion is a key point in the series. The existence of a punishing God is made to be believed, therefore, every Chapter and Verse of the Bible must be interpreted literally in favor of the most tyrannical.

Even so, within that same social group, female discrimination is noted. Little by little, in that contemporary society, women lose all their rights. The men of the class had the privileges including the right to rape women to get them pregnant and then take their children away.

Scenes of suicides, homicides, mutations, cruel and unimaginable punishments in this modern society leave us speechless. Every order for every maid had to be carried out to the letter or else it would weigh on them for the rest of their lives. They were made to suffer to the point of losing their minds. Unfortunately they all have to endure because they all have one thing in common, a son or daughter kidnapped by the religious regime.

En El Cuento de la Criada cada personaje, aunque no bien definida en la primera temporada, cuenta su propia historia. Se puede inferir que detrás de cada uno de ellos hay una razón y un misterio oculto.

De manera general se narra la historia de una sociedad moderna donde el régimen de gobierno religioso es totalmente inhumano. Está explícito que las clase alta tiene mayor influencia y dado su poder juegan con la vida de las personas como mejor les parece.

La religión es un punto clave dentro de la serie. Se hace creer la existencia de un Dios castigador por lo tanto, cada Capítulo y Versículo de la Biblia, debe ser interpretado literalmente a favor de los más tirano.

Aún así, dentro de ese mismo grupo social se nota la discriminación femenina. Poco a poco, en esa sociedad contemporánea, las mujeres pierden todos sus derechos. Los hombres de clase tenían los privilegios incluyendo el derecho de violar a las mujeres para deharlas embarazadas y luego quitarle a sus hijos.

Escenas de suicidios, homicidios, mutaciones, castigos crueles e inimaginables en esta sociedad moderna nos dejan sin palabras. Que se cumpla al pie de la letra cada orden para cada criada o de lo contrario les pesaría para toda la vida. Las hacían sufrir hasta el punto de hacerles perder la razón. Lamentablemente todas deben aguantar porque todas tienen un punto en común, un hijo o una hija secuestrada por el régimen religioso.

There is much to discuss in this series, so many truths, so many realities, so many cruelties and vileness of society makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. So far I have nothing to criticize about the series. 10 stars 🌟 for that first season.

Hay mucho tema para debatir en esta serie, tantas verdades, tantas realidades, tantas crueldades y vileza de la sociedad pone los pelos de punta. Hasta ahora no tengo nada para criticar de la serie. 10 estrellas 🌟 para esa primera temporada.
