I never compromise of being kind,even when it's hard

When I saw this topic, I really thought deep before writing. Many people will talk about honesty, hard work, or their time. But for me, the one thing I never ever bend on is kindness. No matter how hard life is or how people treat me, I always choose to be kind. And to be honest, it’s not easy at all.

Kindness is not just about saying “thank you” or “please.” It’s about how I treat people, especially when they don’t expect it. I believe that everybody is fighting one battle or the other, even if they don’t show it. Life in Ghana is not easy. We all dey struggle in one way or the other. So I always remind myself that my small act of kindness might be the only good thing that happens to someone that day.

There was one time I entered trotro, and the mate was so rude. He shouted at everyone. People were shouting back at him, but I just kept quiet. When I was dropping, I told him, “Thank you, have a good day.” He looked at me surprised, and for the first time, he smiled. That small thing touched me. It showed me that sometimes people act out because they are going through things we don’t know. From that day, I told myself I will never let people’s bad attitude change who I am.

People have tried to take advantage of my kindness, yes. Some think it means I am weak. Some try to use me. But I have learnt that being kind does not mean letting people walk over me. I have my boundaries. I can say no. But even when I say no, I still say it with respect. I don’t insult or try to bring anyone down.

What keeps me grounded in my kindness is knowing that this world is already full of too much hate and wahala. If I can be the light, even in a small way, I will not stop. I have seen how a kind word or action can change somebody’s whole mood. I have felt it too. There are days when just someone helping me carry my bag or saying “you dey try” has lifted my spirit.

So I choose kindness, every single day. Even when it’s hard. Even when people don’t appreciate it. Even when I don’t feel like it. Because I believe what you give is what comes back to you. Maybe not immediately, but somehow, kindness always finds its way back.

That is my one principle I never compromise. I will rather lose friends, lose opportunities, or be seen as soft, than stop being kind. That is who I am, and that is who I always want to be.
