RE: My neighbors in Tokyo

That was an interesting read! I totally forgot about the culture questions, though I subscribed to the community... I'm glad I follow you :-D Will keep a closer I for the next one.

After 10 years living in a small town, I basically know everyone at least by sight. Due to my networking and social endeavors, there are many more that know me. But one thing I learned - don't bother with trying to educate your neighbors about consideration. Not a thing. Most of them are quiet by nature (except for the church, but that's their profession with the bells and the singing), and it's seldom that someone goes too far.

Last year, they banned fireworks - that helped a lot. For some reason, they blow fireworks here after every baptism, marriage, whatever service the church held. When I asked them not to, with all the good arguments and good attitude, I was usually asked to go back where I came from. But the city is on my side now! Fines for fireworks are hefty...

The other annoyance were the neighbors from across the park, who believed themselves to be DJs - for bachata, and other depressive and not that enjoyable music. I once put my own big speaker against them, and blasted some 80s rock at them. 10min later, I got a message from the chief of police in town, asking me to tune it down. I did, and in exchange the police went to the bachata neigbor and asked them to turn it down, too, which they did. Their house has since been torn down, and my little quarter is all the quieter for it.
