Calculating Land - Which cards to buy?
Welcome to another Support Article for the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge! Since there will be many, many articles about the general works of Land, here’s my approach to land: Calculations!
First, for more of the articles visit the post https://peakd.com/hive-13323/@splinterlands/splinterlands-community-engagement-challenge-support-articles-sm8jpf and scroll down to the comment section. You should also follow the @splinterlands account to make sure you get all the great information coming through there.
Now, let’s go. As you might already know, Land was created to give use to all the cards that drop out of Modern League or whose abilities and stats are obsolete due to better cards. Hence, there are bonuses in place – for example, for an Alpha card you get a x10 multiplier.
That means, for the same amount of Energy/Staked DEC, you get 10x more Production Points (PP) – which makes it more convenient to use cards with multipliers – but those are pricier as well.
So, how do you find the biggest production bang for your buck? With Excel! Here’s a comparison between different sets. I pulled the most recent prices at https://monstercards.store/ for that.
As you can see, Bet Set is the best combination at the moment. Why? Chaos Legion is the cheapest in buying 1000 PP in rare cards, but needs a huge amount of DEC staked – you don’t loose that DEC, but can’t use it otherwise, either, so I always take it into account.
The decision now is between Untamed and Beta – what do you prefer? Spend more on cards of which you don’t know if the value will go up, or spend more on DEC to stake on the Land in form of Energy?
Explanation of calculations:
PP = Production power of each card as displayed in their description.
Price = taken from the monstercards-store
Price/1000 PP = This is the price one would have to pay for 1000 PP: 1000 / PP * Price
BCX = Base Card Experience. One card at level 1 is 1 BCX. The BCX column stands for the amount of BCX needed to get to 1000 PP, which is my base case. The calculation is = 1000/PP
Max = The BCX needed for a maxed out card which then consumes 10,000 Energy.
DEC/BCX = The Energy/staked DEC required for each BCX = 10,000/Max
Total DEC = The total Energy/staked DEC required for 1000 PP = BCX * DEC/BCX
Total = The total $$$ amount you have to have available to get the 1000 PP ready to go on your land with this card = Price/1000 PP + Total DEC/1000 (dividing the DEC by 1000 asumes that DEC is at peg)
Hope that helps someone! It certainly helped me to figure out that I don't want to get into lands - yet! I just don't have the cards for it, and the return is not enough to be rewarding (for now, let's wait for 2.0!)
Have a good day!
