Hello @caturday community, today I'm sharing Rhylie's story with you.

On July 22, 2024, an acquaintance showed us a photo where a Carey kitten was being given up for adoption. Not many months before, we had lost Luna, our 2 and a half year old Carey cat, and we fell in love immediately.

Little Rhiley came to revolutionize everything: super stressed, incredibly scared, and a sweetheart. Since we had already had a Carey cat, we knew what we were getting into, so with a lot of patience and love we gained her trust. She was given to us on July 24, 2024, and by the 27th she was already eating alone and letting us touch her. In fact, the 28th was her first official photo shoot... in the bathroom because she still didn't trust us 100%.

Unfortunately, on August 27th, I went to feed her and noticed something strange in her tail. I told my daughter and she saw it and sent photos to a friend, who said, "Take her to the vet now, that's a prolapse!" My mother suffered from uterine prolapse so I knew what he was referring to and we took her to the vet for the first time. There they gave her antibiotics and a treatment and they sutured her anus until it was a very small opening.

The cat evolved well with her wet diet and her treatment. The doctor was amazed, she said she had never seen a rectal prolapse in such a small baby.
Luckily, Rhiley's spirits never dropped, nor did her appetite or energy.

Everything seemed to be going well until 15 days after finishing the treatment, her tail came out again. We ran to the vet again and the doctor performed the same procedure and gave her the same treatment... but she didn't give us a definitive answer or send her for x-rays or other tests and although the cat acted as if nothing had happened, we didn't like the situation at all.

In fact, although the family that gave her to us seemed like very good people, the cat was very scared and defensive, which left us thinking from the beginning.

The truth is that I decided that I had to stop making things up. Having your anus sutured hurts for God's sake! I told my daughter that was enough, we started her on a wet diet and we always have the antibiotic on hand, but I forbade the family from touching her or stressing her out. If she comes close, great, but don't stress her, give her space and let her be.

Today I can happily say that Rhiley is a healthy and beautiful fat girl who only lets herself be petted from time to time, but healthy, loved and happy, in fact she has already been spayed and next month she will be 1 year old.

If her feeding is normal although we are always vigilant, she is a sweet and strong-willed creature, our warrior, our miracle.

Until the next opportunity! 😺

Spanish Version:
