Unspoken Wish... Fiction prompt #221.

“Oh my, this is such a beautiful house brother” Amy smiled as she looked up at her brother Kelvin.

“I'm glad you like it, little sister. I chose this place because it is spacious. You can easily move around without fear of hitting anything” he replied.

Nodding affirmatively, Amy looked down at her wheelchair. “I wish to walk again one day” she whispered under her breath but Kelvin still heard it but all he could do was comfort her silently.

They were siblings living alone since the death of their parents. At first, they stayed in foster homes until Kelvin clocked eighteen and went in search of a job.

Kelvin was hell bent on removing his sister from the foster home and taking care of her himself. He was the only family she had and besides, he didn't trust anyone with her care due to her partial paralysis.

Indeed in less than three years, he worked hard and was able to get a spacious two bedroom apartment that he and sister could live in together. He finalized things with the social workers and now he was her legal guardian. All he wants, was for her to keep smiling.

“Let me take you to your room princess” Kelvin said as he wheeled her to a room next to the kitchen. The room was beautifully decorated with pink paints and decor just like in Barbie movies.

“Do you like your room dear?” He asked her and she gave him her brightest smile.

“Yes brother, I do like the room. Thank you very much” she responded.

He let her be and walked out to do some arranging of things in his own room.

Amy was overjoyed seeing she had a room all to herself. She felt like jumping up but her legs would not respond. She wheeled herself to the bed to feel the soft quilt with her hands. It felt surreal, almost like a dream. Feeling tired suddenly, she decided to take a nap.

Dream wonderland

Amy opened her eyes to see herself walking through a ride field. She stretched out her hand to hold a rose when she heard a little squeak. The sound seemed to be coming from the floor of the garden and so she bent low to see what was making a noise.

“Hello Miss, how are you?”

Came the squeaky voice of a purple coloured mouse. Shocked, Amy wanted to scream but the mouse pleaded…

“Don't !…. Please do not scream. I'm a friendly mouse and I can also grant wishes. I'll do anything you want but please don't scream”, the little mouse pleaded.

Amy was still in shock but she found the courage to not scream. “How come you are talking. You are just a mouse and from what I know, animals don't speak”

“Well, you're right. This is Dream Wonderland where anything is possible. You also suffer from partial paralysis, don't you? But look at you standing on your own two feet right now” the little purple mouse replied.

Amy looked at her legs and truly she was not in a wheelchair.

“How could this be?”

“Have I been kidnapped? I need to go to my brother right now” Amy said sternly but the little mouse only looked at her with puzzled eyes.

“My name is Joe and I'm pleased to meet you Miss but as for going back to your brother, that is all dependent on you” Jo the mouse said.

“What do you mean by that?” She asked.

“It just means that you will be here for a while until you are ready to wake up. You might as well enjoy your time here. I can show you around if you don't mind” Jo continued.

Feeling somewhat sad but not wanting to miss a time of fun, Amy agreed. She allowed Jo the mouse lead her through the rose field and unto an adventure.

Amy felt alive more than ever as she explored Dream Wonderland with Jo. Indeed he kept to his promise by conjuring up the things she so desired.

She was still happily playing inside a candy pool when she heard someone call out her name. She thought it was Jo.

“I'm right here Jo. No need to yell my name”.

“But, I wasn't the one who called you”. Jo replied.

“She sat up and listened to the voice calling her name and that was when she realized that it was her brothers voice.

“Looks like it's time to go. Your brother needs you now” Jo said to her.

Tearfully, Amy asked “Will I see you again?”

“Yes of course Miss. As long as you sleep. You will always be here in Dream Wonderland where there are no worries”.

“By bye Mr Jo” Amy said to him as she stood up and waved her hands.

“By and see you soon Miss. Now close your eyes and you'll be awake” Jo instructed.

She did and her eyes opened to see Kelvin standing beside her bed.

“Thank goodness you are awake now. It's time for dinner. Come join me” Kelvin said before walking out of Amy's room.

Amy looked at her legs. She tried to see if she could walk like she did in Dream Wonderland but it was a futile attempt.

She decided to go have her dinner quickly and then hurry back to sleep. She was missing Jo the purple mouse already.

Awww. Dreams often feel so real that we forget that we are dreaming. I'm happy that despite Amy being in a wheelchair, she could actually experience using her legs in the dream wonderland.

Amazing story, dear.

Amy is so excited about her visit to the wonderland, where she can walk freely without a wheelchair. I hope her wish come true one day.
