The return..... Finish the tale #17.

During the high stakes spy meeting someone's phone went off playing the theme song from Barbie girl…and it was the boss's ringtone. Two of our men, Rico and Sniff, had already begun dancing to it's tune. It was up to me to take action or our cover would be blown and that would spell doom for us.

In hushed tones, I called out to my boss. It was at times like this that I wished that I was standing next to him but I guess at that moment, he was too smug to care about anybody's opinion.

I signalled him to turn his phone off as soon as I got his attention. He nodded, brought out his phone from his pants pocket and turned it off.

*’”Phew, that was close” I whispered as soon as his mobile phone was turned off. My boss's love for his daughter was the very reason we were here in the first place. We might be acting as spies but we are definitely the ”good guys”.

A week ago, our squad department received an anonymous letter with photos of my boss's daughter tied to a chair, gagged and placed in a secure room. The letter read…

”Come along with the ark. You have seven days or else, you'll never see her pretty face again”.

My boss was furious. It was obvious that this was an act of terrorism and we could not afford to let such a dangerous weapon like the ark fall into their hands. There's also the kidnap issue. Without wasting much time, my boss called in our entire team. We needed to outsmart the bad guys.

Three days later, we were gathered in a coffee shop opposite to the abandoned warehouse where Kelly, my boss’s ten year old daughter was kidnapped. Jason our tech guy was the one who found out that important piece of information and so my boss decided that we were to hold a meeting at the coffee shop at 1 am. We made arrangements with the coffee shop owner, paid him some cash and he gave us the keys to his shop.

1 am

We were gathered in the coffee shop, discussing in hushed tones what our attack strategy would be. No one expected my boss's phone to not be on silent mode. After the whole phone ringtone thing died down, we progressed with our meeting. At 4am, we already had a good strategy on how to fool the bad guys and get Kelly back unhurt. The attack strategy would be carried out on the seventh day, the day of the so-called exchange for the ark.

4 days later…exchange day.

My boss had already assigned duties to eight of us in his team. I and Collin were assigned with extraction of Kelly while he and some others from my team would go face the bad guys at the chosen rendezvous point.

Collin and I worked in stealth mode. Dressed in all black, we needed to blend in with the cover of night. No slip-ups allowed. We were good as we knew what to do. Our only fear came as we were unsure how the transaction between our boss and the bad guys were going.

After thirty minutes of fighting off the bad guys guarding Kelly, we got to her, freed her and escaped out the same way we came…….through a secret tunnel. I tried contacting our boss to let him know that our mission was a success but his number was not connecting. What could be the problem?

I wanted to go look for our boss but Collin reminded me that our mission was to take Kelly away and keep her safe until the others were through with their mission and we all met at our base.

4 hours later....

A *Barbie girl ringtone woke us up. Shouts of ”Daddy, daddy!” from Kelly got us standing on our feet immediately. Our boss and the rest of our men were back, though injured but he was back intact and that was victory.
