New learning curve...Loh #257.

Pleasant greetings everyone 👋. Warm welcome to my blog. Hope the week is already looking good for you☺️.

Learning is a lifelong process. It is said that he who stops learning, starts dying. With this, if an opportunity came for me to study and lean something new, I would surely not dilly-dally about it.

One major thing that has served as a major hindrance to furthering my studies is finance. Now with a scholarship covering that aspect, there's nothing stopping me from learning what I want to.

I had an initial dream of becoming a medical doctor, majoring in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. But due to certain circumstances, I had to switch to Education, majoring in Biology.

If a scholarship was granted to me to study something new, I would love to study Genetics. This is a whole new field for me even though it is still science related.

I am fascinated at how our DNA works and how it codes genetic traits in life forms. Genetics as a field of study researched into inborn traits, hereditary diseases and variations in living organisms.

These researches has broadened our understanding of why some illnesses attack some kinds of living species and not some. Genetics as a field also extends to Agriculture and not just medicine alone.

Moreover, I would love to research on the various strains of Bacteria, Viruses and Fungi and probably, I could develop potent drugs and chemicals needed to combat them.

In my country, the most recurring disease is Malaria. There is always someone somewhere suffering from that deadly disease despite the enormous amount of drugs in the market being sold for treatment. This year alone, I have treated myself twice for it.

If I study Genetics, I would try to research a cure or something that can help us become “malaria immune”. This way, malaria will no longer be a menace to our health.

Another angle that is prompting me to study Genetics is to help couples know the truth about their bloodline. There are lots of stories of couples filing for a divorce because of infidelity, dishonesty and cheating in marriage.

Some months ago, a man nearly ran mad because he discovered that the son he had loved, cared for and nurtured for eighteen years, was not his son. His wife was already pregnant for another man before they both got married and she never seemed it fit to tell her husband about what she did, rather she let him believe that the baby was his and life continued.

When I heard of this, my heart ached for the man. I later learnt that he divorced his wife and sent her packing with her son. Now here is what I'm driving at. My study of genetics would help to curb issues like this because I would advice couples who are doubting the paternity of their children to know once ad for all through a test.

Who knows, I could also help lost and abandoned children trace their roots and get to know from which family they are from.

My point is studying genetics would be a fascinating and thrilling expecrience for me and also a new ground to conquer.

Thanks for reading.
