Naming a new baby.
The arrival of a new baby is always a joyous occasion because it is not easy for a woman to carry a pregnancy to a full term of nine months and then lgo through labour and push out a full human being.
There are stories of women dying right after childbirth and there are those who die while pregnant. So whenever I hear that a woman has given birth to her baby, I am always glad.
I went for a naming ceremony today at a neighbouring compound in my vicinity. The woman who invited me to her grandson's naming ceremony is a familiar friend to us and we both have a good rapport.
Her first son who recently got married has now become a new data and she a new grandma. I was so happy for her because I could see the happiness and joy radiating from her face. She was so full of joy at the arrival of her new grandson and she didn't hide it.
The naming ceremony commenced at about 4:20 pm and a lady came to pray and open the floor while another lady came out to sing some praise songs for about fifteen minutes before the man of God stepped out to exhort all in attendance as per the importance of names.
A name is a very powerful commodity that identifies a person and differentiates that person from another. When a name is called, it isn't just a noun but it is a form of identity that represents a person. So the man of God encouraged the parents to mind the names they call the baby henceforth.
After the name of the baby was called and we prayed for the baby. It was time for gift giving and the baby received a lot of gifts. I feel like sharing the name of the baby with you all. The baby's first name is Eliam, which means God is with His people. Such a beautiful name.
Later it was time to dance and make merry with the usual item 7 . Item 7 is a code for food and drinks in parties. When there is no item 7, it means no food in that party.
But luckily, the newest grandma in town prepared some tantalizing jollof rice and fried hake fish popularly referred to as kpanla fish in the Yoruba dialect.
Soft drinks were shared to all the guests and we ate and danced to the music from the DJ's corner. It was an enjoyable event all the way but we had to go home as it was getting dark at about 7:30 pm.
I did not bother to prepare dinner when I got home as I made the food I ate at the party my dinner. All that's missing is my sweet bed but that's once I'm done with this post 😁.
Thank you all for reading.
