Key to Honesty......Finish the tale #13.

The stranger at the subway station handed me a key and whispered “don't lose it”. I was perplexed at what had just happened. “Why me?” I thought and “why a key?”

I searched around the subway station to see if I could catch a glimpse of the stranger. I recall he was wearing a faded brown coat and a hat. That's all I could see as he handed me the key and disappeared with the crowd.

I decided to wait till I got home before figuring things out. The train arrived and I boarded it. I pushed thoughts of the key to the back of my mind.

I arrived home and quickly called my friend Amy over. After downloading the weird events at the subway station to her, she asked to see the key.

I brought it out from my Jean pocket and showed it to her. She inspected the key and found a four digit code on it. Picking up my laptop, she began searching for the meaning of the code.

I gave her space to work since I knew that she Wasa techy genius.

Thirty minutes later, she called me to come see what she found. It turns out that the code and key were belonged to a secret billionaire who deals in art.

The key was actually for his studio. I quickly asked Amy for address and phone number which she sent to my phone. Picking upy coat, I left to go find the studio myself.

On getting there, I tried the key in unlocking the door and it opened. “Wow” i said as my eyes fell on several beautiful paintings. “Should I keep the studio as mine or should I call the number?”

I was torn but I chose the honourable way. I dialed the number of the owner and told him that his key to one of his studios was with me. He told me to wait for twenty minutes and hung up.

Twenty minutes later, I heard someone open the studio and walk in. As I stood up to take a look at the mystery person, I gasped in shock. The owner of the studio turned out to be Parker an old classmate.

He was also surprised to see me but he was very grateful that I called to inform him of my discovery. After spending time time going around the studio and catching up a little, I handed the key back to him and left.

One week later, I got a parcell and when I opened it, I saw the same key from before and a note that said “Thank you for your honesty. You can keep the studio. It's all yours once you sign the documents attached”.

I was ecstatic but grateful. I signed the document and drove to the studio which was now mine. I found Parker standing there like he was sure that I would really sign.

“Congratulations to you for becoming the new owner” he said smiling. I could only smile and give a handshake.

It felt like a dream. I now owned my own art studio. All thanks to honesty.

A beautiful story. No one loses anything from being honest. Rather, you earn more - respect, trust and gifts, just like the lady in the story.
