Candy Cane Lane 2023 (a beautiful Christmas film) review.

Pleasant greetings to you all.

Christmas is no doubt the most amazing season of the year. This is not only because of the decorations and gift giving but also because of the Joy of sharing and family time.

I like watching Christmas movies as I am usually moved to tears with the demonstrations of love, cheer and care and I have got a Christmas movie right hereto review.

This movie is titled Candy Cane Lane and it is a 2023 Christmas Fantasy Comedy film but the best part is that it starrs great actors in the persons of Eddy Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross and also features my most favourite Acapella group called Pentatonix (these guys can sing).

I never realized that I had this movie simply dormant amongst my video files and only just recently watched it but my oh my, the feeling of Christmas never fades. This movie lives up to its reputation of big a comedy film with Eddy Murphy dropping some serious humour all over the movie.

Plot

The movie centers around the life of a simple family known as The Carvers”. Chris Carver and his wife Carol Carver with their three children named Joy, Nick and Holly respectively. In their place of residence, there's an annual Christmas decorations competition that every house participates in. While Chris Carver has never won the competition, he envies his neighbour who has won it four time using cheap mass produced inflatables.

Chris wants to win this year's competition, especially with the prize of $100,000 involved, since he was laid off from work. He takes Holly shopping for Christmas decorations but couldn't find any and in desperation, they both stumble upon a mysterious shop named Kingles owned by Pepper, a wicked elf that had been chased out of the North Pole.

Chris buys a beautiful tree that follows the twelve days of Christmas song and he impresses everyone during the competition but he never realized the cost for winning and also what it would cost his family.

Later realizing that he had been tricked into an evil bargain that would turn him into a glass figurine, Chris and his family work together to trap the wicked elf and still have a great Christmas. With assistance from other tricked glass figurines and a black Santa Clause, Chris and his family overcame the evil Pepper's plans.

What I liked

The picture quality of the movie was very good. The Christmas spirit was felt all over the movie and I especially like the bond shared between the Carvers and their neighbours.

I also liked the twist of events with Santa. No one expected Santa to be black and his sleigh was like a sports car with no reindeers.

I liked how Pentatonix grouo sang Carols whenever a Christmas word was mentioned. They would sing a song related to that Christmas word and that was lovely for me.

What I disliked

There isn't much to dislike about the movie but personally, I disliked the way Chris and his wife tried to force their daughter Joy into going to their Alma Maya especially since she had other choices in mind.

They also did the same thing to their son Nick. Telling him that music has no profitable career possibility which was just lame because Nick happened to be very talented but he had to hide his musical talents and it caused him to fail some of his important subjects like Maths.

It had to take Chris being turned into a glass figurine before he realized that his kids had their life to live and this for me was so relatable. “Why do we wait until a tragic event occurs before we give people a chance to be who they want to be or love their lives on their terms?”

Significance

Candy Cane Lane is a movie that teaches the values of honesty, sincerity and togetherness especially amongst family members.

It also sends the message of trusting and believing in our kids especially when we have raised them right. We can't be too controlling to the point that it would become overbearing. Family is everything but a family is made up of individuals that cooperate as one living unit.

Most exciting scene

For me this would be the part where Nick left his parents to go do his magic in the music room. He was so lost making good musical beats that he began to dance to his own tunes. I love music especially good music and sometimes, you can het lost listening to good music.

I rate this movie 7 stars out of 10, for its humour, Christmas spirit, Carols and beautiful plot.

There's no action or thrill but the movie still made my day.

Thank you all for reading.

When you said, wicked elf, I knew something would be wrong.
The movie "Christmas" I watched last year featuring the pentatonix made me love them because they did great in that movie, too.
This is a nice review 👌

Then I'll definitely watch it. Thanks for sharing
