Being Patriotic. ..HN prompt #96.

“Nigeria we hail thee” is the first line of my country's national anthem that I would like to change because truly, there is nothing to hail inside the matter if we take a real good look.

If I start to rant about my reasons for making the above statement, I doubt that 7,000 word count would be insufficient but still my country is a blessed and prosperous one and it is home for me.

There's no perfect country anywhere and no country without its own shortcomings. What we can do is be the change we want to see in those areas that we seem re lacking

If I could change one thing in my country so as to set things right and usher in balance, no matter how little, then I'd like to place my focus on the political system of my country.

“Politics is a dirty game” is a phrase that is quite popular on the lips of the average Nigerian. But thinking about it, “aren't these leaders voted in to serve the masses and lead the country to greater heights and better development?”

They are referred to as public servants for a reason.

“Where and when did politics turn into a dog eat dog system that frightens even the bravest of souls?”

The political system of my country needs a thorough change and I'm not referring to the one they promised us more than eight years ago using a broom as their emblem. The kind of change that I would like to see happen is a total eradication of our *multi political system”.

As far as I'm concerned, that is one of the root causes of the many problems in my country. Just because the human rights part of the Constitution supports it does not mean that every Tom, Dick and Harry should start a political party especially when it is quite obvious to all that these political parties and their flag bearers are incompetent.

I feel that Nigeria can make do with only two political party systems, with competent flag bearers who know their onions and are willing to serve their country.

What benefits would this change bring to my country?

Hypothetically speaking........

Firstly, I believe it would greatly minimize electoral malpractice which leads to the swearing into power of corrupt leaders. Majority of these so called political parties are just cover ups for electoral malpractice. Some know that they would never win but they still operate because of the financial benefits.

Secondly, this change would greatly inspire patriotic service in any voted leader as he or she would be aware that if he or she does not keep to their manifesto, they would be voted out during the next election and they most likely know the party that would be voted in.

These are my hypothetical thoughts on the #hivenaija prompt for the week but deep down I wish it would be adopted, then a positive change would be ushered into my country.

Thank you all for reading.

For a long time now, I've decided to not discuss Nigerian politics again for my sanity. The cabals have so rubbished the political system that one can hardly believe in it.

My dear there is nothing to hail in this country of mine. The political system of this country has nothing to write home about. The leaders don't care about the masses, all they know is to embezzle the money for themselves. Well done.

Hmmmmm...I think this summarises whatever I'll want to say because if I'll say something, you'll read an entire post here 😄.

Hopefully one day soon politics will have a major reform in many countries 🙏 Why not three parties instead of two?

Three is good but I'll still prefer two instead of the over sixty plus political parties that my country has.
