A day well spent.
Ever had thise days when it seemed like you were busy at a stretch? Well, yesterday and today werebsucj days. Today was especially hectic for me. . I haven't closed my eyes to sleep since yesterday till now and it isn't because I don't want to sleep but because I was busy planning and preparing my pastor's wife's birthday celebration
Mu pastor's wife celebrated her birthday today, July 13th, 2025. She had been away for about two weeks, visiting a sick relative in the hospital. The party and celebration was actually a surprise planned by my pastor to host and honour her.
I was busy from yesterday and the electoral curfew set in place in my state didn't halp matters at all. Free movement started from 3pm ad that was when I began my journey to the market.
I should have taken @princessbusayo’s advice in one of her posts where she advised a person to do a thorough market price survey before going to the market or else one would meet unpalatable and unfair occurrences.
That was exactly what happened. I went to the market with the old price of January in my head. On getting to the market, I found the price of foodstuffs to have tripled. This market I'm talking about is not a retailer consumer market but a wholesale market where I could buy things in bulk for the party.
After successfully buying the ingredients for the party jollof and chicken, it was time to cook. I recruited the help of a fellow church member and together, the both of us cooked the party jollof rice without any mishaps. We stayed up all night preparing ingredients, cooking the food and serving it in a take home plastic dish.
Fast forward to today, when my pastor's wife came to church service from the hospital. After the norms of church activities, it was time to celebrate her and we all stood up to sing ”happy birthday to her”, then it was time for item 7.
Item 7 is a phrase used by Nigerians to indicate refreshments. Of course z there will be no party without food and drinks. The party jollof rice I stayed up all night to cook tasted so nice that I wanted to become an Oliver Twist but I had to distribute the food to all.
My pastor's wife filled with joy decided to visit an orphanage, especially an orphanage for kids with special needs. I made a post last year about how the women's department in my church contributed and bought foodstuffs for the same orphanage, today I got to see those kids again and the same exact feelings of last year erupted inside of me.
I saw kids with cerebral palsy, down syndrome and epilepsy. When we (those of us who accompanied my pastor's wife) entered the building, the children began singing, jumping and hugging us. It was a moment of mindful reflection. I saw children in wheel chairs, singing and rejoicing yet me that is complete and whole, I'm full of complains because I don't have my wants met yet.
My pastor's wife donated a lot of goodies to the orphanage. From a bag of rice, half bags of beans and garri to packs of diapers, packets of baby wipes, buscuits, detergents, vegetable oil andothee necessary items to help out. We rounded things up at the orphanage and we left the orphanage but that was not all for my day.
A particular female church member had been sick during the week. Myself and a minister went to visit her at home and the journey was not child's play. I just stepped into my abode not quite long. I feel tired but I'm grateful for today and the strength expended as well 🙏.
Today was hectic indeed.

The perfect party planner! I hope you kept some for me!
Yep I did but ....later at night I ate it 😂😂 because I couldn't fly it over to you 😂😂😂
haha okay you are forgiven. It is great you did that for her
Thank you boss boss 🥰
You are so very welcome Becky
😂😂
Ahhhh
Party jollof rice and I am here.
Your pastor's wife did noble by visiting the orphanage home with such goodies, it will really go a long way.
Happy birthday to her, many more years in good health.
Amen, thank you very much o.
This is what we are called to do because those children cannot help themselves at all, so God put us here to help them with our substance.
That's true.
But it takes acceptance to do it.
Yes ooo.
It's not easy. My pastor's wife spent #500,000 naira yesterday alone.
Omo
It's not easy oo
Yeah
Hahaha. Don't make such a mistake again oo 🤣🤣 Even prices go up after the third day of visiting the market. I try to add more prices to the last one to avoid any frowned face at the market. It's just so disappointing we are in a country with no stable price as anything could happen the next minute.
I really do want to visit an orphanage someday to see those kids. I love how your pastor's wife celebrated her day with them and how you all worked towards surprising her. Sorry for the stress.
My dear thank you o. Can you see me looking at naija with corner eye.
Visiting an orphanage requires a lot especially in finances. My pastor's wife spent #500k for just yesterday's visit and we do it twice a year.
This is what God expects of us to do and I'm happy doing so and contributing my own quota.
Wait, you assumed the prices of goods in January will remain the same this July? Sis, seems like you're not in this country with us. 🤣 Prices that can change immediately after you've made enquiry.
Well, thank goodness you got all the required ingredients for the food.
I love surprise birthdays and it's nice your pastor arrange one for his wife. I can imagine how excited she was, seeing everything unfolding. It's nice to read that she crowned her day with a visit to the orphanage home, that's beautiful.
Belated birthday wishes for her.
!BBH
Thank you so much sis. This was actually my first solo party planning and I was glad it went well.
My sister, see me see glory na. I thought that things would be around a particular price range. For example, I bought a mini bucket of fresh tomatoes at #4,500 in January. So I thought that it would be around #5,000 to #6,000 but to my honest surprise, the price was #10,000 for that mini bucket.
Having a stretch of hectic, sleepless days? I can totally relate. The last weekend was same for me, even now to some extent. Guess it's one of the perks of adulthood.
This one really touched me too.
I'll say you even tried to have written this post amidst all the tiredness. It would have possibly ended up in my dreams, haha.
You did well in the preparations, and what the pastor’s wife did was very kind and nice of her.
My brother it was necessary. As adults, there are times when we stretch ourselves for a greater course.
I was dozing while writing. How I even clicked submit post is a mystery 😂 but thank God it's all good.
I appreciate your time reading this post👍
True.
You try sha 😅.
You're welcome ✌.
