Kennedy Fox „Chasing Him” – Real Love and Chaos

There are books that you pick up just because something in them attracts you. For me, first there was the cover and the look of a guy with a slight smile, then the title itself, which sounds a bit like a promise and a bit like a riddle. I didn't even know this was the third volume of the Bishop Brothers series, but I immediately entered this world and it didn't bother me at all that I didn't know the previous parts. John Bishop, the main character, runs a guesthouse on the ranch. Like a quiet life, duties and routine, everything is arranged until one day a child appears. Someone leaves a baby on his doorstep with a note saying it's his daughter. That was the moment when I thought that now something completely different than a typical romance was beginning. How do you write a love story when the main character suddenly has to become a father? And that's what drew me in, because it was no longer just a story about two adults getting together, but a story about responsibility, learning life from scratch, and how one decision can change everything. John, on the one hand, is firmly on the ground, on the other hand he is completely lost and you can see that he is scared. During the reading, I wanted to tell him to slow down, that he could do it step by step and that it was normal to feel lost.

U mnie najpierw była okładka i to spojrzenie faceta z lekkim uśmiechem, później sam tytuł, który brzmi trochę jak obietnica a trochę jak zagadka. Nie wiedziałam nawet że to trzeci tom serii Bishop Brothers, ale od razu weszłam w ten świat i wcale mi nie przeszkadzało że nie znam poprzednich części. John Bishop, główny bohater, prowadzi pensjonat na ranczu. Niby spokojne życie, obowiązki i rutyna, wszystko poukładane aż pewnego dnia pojawia się dziecko. Ktoś zostawia mu na progu niemowlę z kartką że to jego córka. To był moment kiedy pomyślałam że teraz zaczyna się coś zupełnie innego niż typowy romans. Jak się pisze historię o miłości kiedy główny bohater nagle musi zostać ojcem? I właśnie to mnie wciągnęło, bo już nie była to tylko opowieść o dwojgu dorosłych którzy się spotykają, ale historia o odpowiedzialności, uczeniu się życia od nowa i o tym jak jedna decyzja potrafi zmienić wszystko. John z jednej strony twardo stąpa po ziemi, z drugiej gubi się kompletnie i widać że jest przerażony. Ja podczas lektury miałam ochotę mu podpowiedzieć żeby zwolnił, że krok po kroku da radę i że to normalne czuć się zagubionym.

And then Mila comes on stage, a babysitter with character, a girl who has her passions and her world. Her obsession with football makes her have something fresh and unusual, and at the same time you immediately feel that she brings to this story not only chaos but also hope. She takes care of Little Maize, but she also teaches John something about himself. Kennedy Fox is doing a great job. There are no sweetened scenes from the first page or thunder from a clear sky, rather slow domestication, a lot of humor, a little quarrels and misunderstandings. Thanks to this, the story is true. Mila is not a fairy princess and John is not a knight in shining armor. These are normal people who make mistakes and have to learn from them. Dialogues sound natural, the characters are able to burn something stupid, take offense, say something in emotions and then behave beautifully and sincerely. I read all this sitting on a bench in the park, next to someone was playing football, leaves were flying from the trees, and I had a feeling that the emotions that John and Mila are experiencing are not so far from what we know on a daily basis. People are looking for love, they are afraid, they run away, and sometimes they just need someone to tell them that they are not alone and that they can try together.

I wtedy na scenę wchodzi Mila, opiekunka z charakterem, dziewczyna która ma swoje pasje i swój świat. Jej obsesja na punkcie futbolu sprawia że ma w sobie coś świeżego i nietypowego, a jednocześnie od razu czuć że wnosi w tę historię nie tylko chaos ale też nadzieję. Ona zajmuje się małą Maize, ale uczy też Johna czegoś o nim samym. Kennedy Fox świetnie prowadzi ich relację. Nie ma tu przesłodzonych scen od pierwszej strony ani gromów z jasnego nieba, raczej powolne oswajanie się, dużo humoru, trochę sprzeczek i nieporozumień. Dzięki temu ta historia jest prawdziwa. Mila nie jest księżniczką z bajki a John nie jest rycerzem w lśniącej zbroi. To normalni ludzie którzy popełniają błędy i muszą się ich nauczyć. Dialogi brzmią naturalnie, bohaterowie potrafią palnąć coś głupiego, obrazić się, powiedzieć coś w emocjach a zaraz potem zachować się pięknie i szczerze. Czytałam to wszystko siedząc na ławce w parku, obok ktoś grał w piłkę, z drzew leciały liście, a ja miałam poczucie że te emocje które przeżywają John i Mila wcale nie są tak dalekie od tego co znamy na co dzień. Ludzie szukają miłości, boją się, uciekają, a czasem po prostu potrzebują kogoś kto powie że nie są sami i że można spróbować razem.

The whole book left me with a warmth and the kind of hope that everyone needs. Kennedy Fox is not afraid to show that love is not only butterflies in the stomach, but also lack of sleep, fatigue and decisions that sometimes hurt. John Bishop becomes more than just a romance hero in this story, he matures into fatherhood, learns to open his heart and accept that not everything can be controlled. Mila, on the other hand, is not an addition to his life, she is an equal figure who shows that love is also a joint weight bearing, laughter and quarrels, everyday life that sometimes tires, but also gives strength. When I closed the book, I had the feeling that each of us is looking for something and that sometimes what seems to be a problem turns out to be the beginning of the road to something better. "The one I'm looking for" is not just a romance to read over the weekend, it's a story that shows that in chaos you can find closeness and that family, even the new and unexpected, can become the most important place on Earth.

Cała książka zostawiła we mnie ciepło i taki rodzaj nadziei, który jest potrzebny każdemu. Kennedy Fox nie boi się pokazać że miłość to nie tylko motyle w brzuchu, ale też brak snu, zmęczenie i decyzje które czasem bolą. John Bishop staje się w tej opowieści kimś więcej niż zwykłym bohaterem romansowym, dojrzewa do ojcostwa, uczy się otworzyć serce i zaakceptować że nie wszystko da się kontrolować. Mila natomiast nie jest dodatkiem do jego życia, ona jest równorzędną postacią która pokazuje że miłość to także wspólne dźwiganie ciężaru, śmiech i kłótnie, codzienność która czasem męczy, ale też daje siłę. Kiedy zamknęłam książkę, miałam poczucie że każdy z nas czegoś szuka i że czasem to co wydaje się problemem okazuje się początkiem drogi do czegoś lepszego. „Ten, którego szukam” nie jest tylko romansem do przeczytania w weekend, to historia która pokazuje że w chaosie można znaleźć bliskość i że rodzina nawet ta nowa i niespodziewana może stać się najważniejszym miejscem na ziemi.
