Sir Huxley’s Adventures

Growing, Snorting, and Stealing Hearts ..

Hello Hive friends! It’s been a while since I’ve written a post solely about our newest family member, Sir Huxley. Today feels like the perfect time to share some updates, funny stories, and heartfelt moments about our little guy.

IMG_5999.jpeg

Well, little he may be, but he’s also growing .. Fast! We had a vet visit last week, and the first thing I noticed was how much Huxley’s grown since his last weigh-in. As soon as we walked through the door, he sniffed the air with that “I know this place” expression. Then came the shakes .. poor little guy remembered the needles from his last visit. 😂 Despite his nervousness, he handled it like a champ. And when it came time to step on the scale, we got quite the surprise: five pounds! That’s double his size from just a couple of months ago. Go, Hux! His nerves fade away pretty quickly after the girls in the office take him into the back office areas to share his cuteness. Oh and he loves the attention!

But cry cry.. Our little guy is growing up. Maybe less handouts? Just kidding

IMG_6005.jpeg

His appetite explains a lot of that growth. He’s always hungry and never misses a chance to remind us when it’s mealtime. But the reason for this vet visit wasn’t his size; it was his ear. He’s been scratching it like crazy and giving it the occasional dramatic head shake. The vet didn’t find anything alarming but prescribed some ear drops as a precaution. Fingers crossed those drops help. Huxley deserves relief (and fewer head shakes). And we deserve not wasting our energy convincing him to stop scratching and to play instead.

Comedy Relief ..

Now, here’s where the story gets hilarious. While waiting for the vet in room #4, Huxley started growling softly and snorting. Naturally, I looked out the tiny window in the door to see what had caught his attention. At first, I saw nothing.

IMG_6003.jpeg

Then the growls turned into little barks, and I finally noticed the culprit: A doorstop shaped like a Dachshund! 😅 Hux was completely convinced it was a real dog. I have to admit, it’s pretty realistic. We both had a good laugh about it (well, I did, anyway). I Brought Hux over to see it and after a few good sniffs, he was satisfied as well.

Room #4 ..

On a bittersweet note, Room #4 holds a lot of memories for us. It’s the same room where we said goodbye to our beloved Molly. Out of four visits to the vet with Hux so far, we’ve been placed in this room twice. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or some strange twist of fate, but it always brings a flood of emotions. Thankfully, Huxley’s antics have a way of lightening the mood.

Growing Pains ..

IMG_6006.jpeg

Speaking of growth milestones .. Sir Huxley has officially outgrown his first harness, an XXX-small, and is now rocking an XX-small. Baby steps, or rather, tiny paw steps! Here’s a photo of him posing by the Christmas tree grouping at our front door. He sat still just long enough for me to snap the shot before making it clear he was ready for a walk. “Well, that’s what the harness is for, right Dad?” And yes, of course, we took a nice stroll to break in his upgraded gear.

IMG_6007.jpeg

Life with Huxley is never dull. Whether it’s discovering doorstop “foes,” growing into new harnesses, or simply brightening our days with his playful personality, he’s a true joy. Thanks for letting me share a slice of Huxley’s world with you all. Until next time, take care and give your furry friends an extra snuggle from us!

Cheers,

BD

Wow, look at him go! Jo used to get ear infections all the time. We used to keep a bottle of cleansing wash on hand and then if we needed the meds we would get them. @mrsbozz used to dig really deep in her ear to get it clean and her leg would start shaking and she would make this funny noise. Hopefully the meds clear it up for you. It used to wake us up in the middle of the night when she would start shaking her head.

We have the solution.. yeah that stuff works great and smells good too. Doc thinks he may have a few ear mites, but no infection is there. Ear is super clean.. nothing on qtip. so weird. Like Jovi, Pepper used to do the leg and grunt thing. So cute.

No kidding, I love the smell of that stuff too. It's so antiseptic smelling. It reminds me of the old bactine stuff we used to use when we were kids.
