Orchid Update - and A Saturday Check In

IMG_3243.png

It's Been A While..

Yet again it has been some time since I've posted… it's Saturday morning and I actually have quite a bit to do. We have been quite busy lately with a little bit of local traveling, House preparation for the upgrades we've been doing, outdoor gardening, indoor gardening, preparing for the summer, yada yada yada. The list goes on and on and things still seemed to pile up. We did take a couple of trips to see family and friends the past few weekends so of course things don't get done when you're not home. And that includes posting about my life.

High Go's Silver

IMG_3233.jpeg

Let us start with silver, so I don't forget. Last time I posted or maybe it wasn't even last time, I picked up quite a few Peace dollars. There's a few more from that grouping. I picked these up just before silver shot up in price… Hi ho Silver!

This is a painting I did probably 18 years ago now. Refined my skills a bit but I thought it was the perfect fit being that we rearranged our entire house for this new carpet that we got. I needed a backdrop for that silver! Lol.

IMG_3236.jpeg

IMG_3235.jpeg

Carpet is in and looking good, but as you can see our dining room is still packed with miscellaneous things including reading chair and all of my painting stuff. Sooner or later it will move up the list of importance and we will get it back into place. For now I snagged one of my paintings and I'll use that as the backdrop for these Cool silver Peace dollars.

Sorry about the black glove. The only thing I had available at the time That was neutral and didn't take away from the coins.

IMG_3232.jpeg

IMG_3230.jpeg

1925-P, 1926-S, and 1934-S
They all came encapsulated but appear as though they were in either a water flood or high humidity situation. It's an odd discoloration on these coins. The one in the center, the 1926S has some like toning to it. It shows up better in the camera actually then via the eye, but it is there.

IMG_3231.jpeg

All these coins are well circulated but still in great shape. They fit awesome into my collection and the best part is I got them before silver prices shot up. I picked them up for about $19 USD each.

Orchid Update!

IMG_2192.jpeg

So this old Gal, which we call 'Peppers Sympathy Orchid', is done blooming. she bloomed for quite a few months and just recently dropped the last flower. The whole time she was blooming I was looking at the plant and it seemed to be falling out of the pot. It had grown top-heavy and now required a repotting. I didn't want to repot the orchid until it was done blooming so I didn't stress it out too much. If you repot them you run the risk of the Plant going into shock or getting stressed and dropping those flowers.

IMG_3242.jpeg

I grabbed everything I would need for this rather easy fix .. I grabbed a new bag of bark, a pizza box that works well for a small job and containing the bark and debris, my snips cut off unwanted plant material, And that's about it. I'm going to use the same pot that she was in.

After I got her out of the pot and removed the bark, there are only maybe one or two roots that needed to be snipped off. I also removed the bottom two leaves that appeared to be yellowing and very dehydrated. They were on their way out at this point anyhow. Since I'm repotting it it's a good time to cut off unwanted plant material such as this.

IMG_3239.jpeg

IMG_3238.jpeg

Here is Pepper's Sympathy Orchid All cleaned up!

IMG_3241.jpeg

IMG_3240.jpeg

Back in the pot she goes, new bark and upright this time! The Jeep, parked in the garage, was right there and made the perfect place for me to set the orchid and snap a quick photo.

IMG_3237.jpeg

She is back where she belongs .. After A good watering and tapping of the pot to make sure all the bar has settled in place, I brought her back in and put her in her spot at the end of the row. All the other orchids are looking great.

IMG_3229.jpeg

For the next orchid update, I'll have to talk about some new growth that's occurring on some of the other types of orchids. Nothing too exciting but new growth is always cool.

I'll Wrap This One Up

**We have a couple of friends coming over we haven't seen in a while, so lots to do! Yesterday afternoon I worked on getting some potted plants together for the patio, A trip to the grocery store, food preparation and some last minute type things like that. Looking forward to it and trying not to do too much today so I'm too tired to enjoy our company. Going so long without writing a post has really sent me back. There are so many things I'd like to share but so much time has passed. Hopefully I can get back on and just do some quick update posts that don't require a lot of flare or artistic creative writing. Just simple posts. At least that's the plan in my head right now. Lol

Until then Enjoy your weekends!

Everything is looking really great. I know what you mean about things being so busy. We have been out of town most every weekend. I can't believe the 4th is just around the corner. We need to get some new flooring as well. I am not looking forward to moving everything around to accommodate that!

Moving around all that stuff was a pain in that you know what. But it's done and I told my wife last night I am glad that we won't have to do it again for another 20 years. We're not hard on our carpet, don't have kids, and we bought a really nice carpet. So we shouldn't have to worry too much in the coming years.

Yeah you may as well get out and enjoy the weather and family as much as you can before it gets cold again. I always read your post about camping and want to get my gear out, clean it up and go. Maybe this year at some point we'll do that.

I hope you are able to! We were just talking about the flooring again today in our house. We are supposed to be having some killer heat this week, so that might keep us indoors a bit.

Going to get hot here too! I decided several years ago not to irrigate any longer. We're hooked up to city water and it costs thousands per year to run our irrigation system. Brown Grass it is! I just don't see the sense in it for us having almost an acre of turf to irrigate.

IMG_3290.jpeg

We are going to see where we stand financially at the end of the summer, then maybe make a decision on the other rooms in the house that we didn't carpet. Still considering hardwood there.

We have two meters at our house because we have a sprinkler system. I have never used it since we moved in though. If my grass is greener it just means I need to mow more. We have actually done a lot of changes, so I have a feeling half my sprinkler heads are pointing in the wrong direction or wouldn't even work anymore.

Orchids and Silver pieces both looking good, being busy sounds like everyone of late you going into Summer rushing around getting things done. Down South going into Winter we can breathe and get it done, painting, renovating, and will need to do a post about the Orchid that surprised me.

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy family and friends, it's time to get out a little more during your warmer months.

Absolutely, will take advantage of it now that it's here. Yes all our friends in Australia and New Zealand and the like heading into winter… Yuck! I guess you're right though it's a bit of a breather for you. Much needed cooler weather to get things accomplished.

It was a beautiful evening last night spent with friends. Just cool enough so we could light our fireplace. But warm enough to be outside to enjoy it.

Have a great weekend!

Our winter temperature range is average 15C to 26C most comfortable time of the year. Had an outdoor early evening meal Saturday with sunset at 5pm.

Woody had an outdoor shower on Saturday morning being warm enough to dry out lying on his outdoor sunbed before second half of winter when normally cooler.

Have a wonderful new week!

In the winter we can get down to -10 Celsius or below, and in the summer around 36 Celsius possibly a little higher. 30 C is the average temp this time of year. Evenings aren't too bad. We are not far from the beach so we do get an ocean breeze from time to time and that cool things off. If you can say it cost things off. I guess it lowers the temperature. Lol

Enjoy your day!

Personally prefer our winter temperatures, summer far to hot and humid day and night no reprieve. We relatively close to the ocean having draft come up between the hills that always helps...

My orchids are doing well too. Well, not really all. I'll repot them soon. I will try your potting mix!
You know that I love the Peace Dollars!!!
Ah... your so artistic! Is that painting acrylic or oil?

I try not to stay away, but time gets away from me. Especially this time of year I think.

I painted that painting using oil paint. Not the best painting in the world but I do like the way it makes me feel… Relaxed and wanting to read a book.

Stack that silver! It's hard for me to pass up a peace dollar when the price is good. So so hard. I should probably be grabbing more bouillon but I can't say no to the peace dollar.

I now have a second branch of buds coming up from my one and only Orchid.
20240615_172052.jpg
This is getting exciting. I have yet to find a larger terracotta pot to re-pot her into, there has to be a yard sale around here that has a pot to spare.

I found that my orchid do prefer a terra-cotta pot I guess because it wax the water away from the bark so it doesn't stand against the roots too long. You'll find one! Keep searching. You'll want to wait until it's done and over with the blooming cycle. That may be a couple of months so you have time. Lol Looks great!

That was a beautiful orchid while it bloomed, now until next year!

Nice Peace dollars, you can never have too many of them. Carpet looks great in there, it must feel great to have the new flooring in!
