A Winter Day of Cozy Work and Orchid Surprises - And of Course Molly & Pepper Memories
Just Another Work From Home Day Here In The Northeast ..
And Last night, another winter storm swept through .. Leaving behind a picturesque scene of rain and snow that transformed the world outside. The day unfolded with lingering showers, creating a beautiful yet somewhat gloomy atmosphere. With the roads covered in a thin layer of freezing rain, I opted to work from the comfort of my home rather than facing the wintry challenges outside.
As I focused on my tasks .. The soothing notes of light jazz filled the air. Despite the peaceful ambiance, the honking of Canadian Geese echoed in the background. These majestic birds seemed content floating on the lake, choosing the tranquility of water over the bustling search for their next meal in a nearby field.
In the midst of my work .. A much-needed break led me outside to witness the winter beauty surrounding the lake. The landscape, dusted with about 2 inches of snow, sparkled under the touch of freezing rain. Nature's serene allure captivated me as I observed the Canadian Geese gracefully navigating the icy waters.
Another Orchid Surprise ..
Amidst the winter charms .. A warmer surprise awaited indoors – our Cattleya Orchid, Jewel Box 'Scheherazade,' had started pushing out a bloom stem! This delightful development marks the first time this Orchid has bloomed for us since we acquired her back in early March 2023, nearly a year ago. It's an exciting moment, especially since our home has typically been graced by the elegant blooms of Phalaenopsis Orchids.
Above .. With the help of the sun - One can see the new flower bud within the flower sheath. A flower sheath is a leaf like growth that sits at the very top of a pseudobulb, indicating that the Orchid will bloom from that particular pseudobulb when the time is right (when it is in season -- February through May). I think that estimation is just about right!
And Below .. we can see the new flower bud forcing her way out of the flower sheath.
The anticipation grows as we await the unfolding of the beautiful red blooms on the Cattleya Orchid .. The exact timeline remains uncertain, and I'm as eager as you are to witness this floral spectacle. Stay tuned for updates on this enchanting journey, and let's discover together how long it takes for the Cattleya Orchid to unveil its vibrant red blossoms.
A taste of what we have to look forward to...
Winter may linger outside, but within the walls of our home, the promise of new life and beauty is taking root.
How can I be gloomy about that? I really can't.
Sorry in advance for this depressing bit of writing..
On a chilly winter's day, the world draped in a melancholy gray, the heavens wept with a mix of snow and rain, a somber ballet of nature's tears. The once pristine blanket of snow, a canvas for joyous paw prints and playful leaps, now bore the weight of sorrow. Molly and Pepper, two companions bound by love, left a void deeper than the puddles forming in the slushy aftermath. Their absence echoed in the silence, their familiar paw prints absent from the softened canvas. As raindrops gently erased the imprints, it mirrored the tears that blurred the memories of their playful romps. The world, now devoid of their lively spirits, became a cold and damp reflection of the loss etched in the heart's frosty corridors.
We had a stretch before this storm came through where it was nothing but clouds and rain every day. I don't think we saw the sun for a week. It was miserable!
Snowing here today, and I think next week starts a nice bit of crappy weather like you're explaining here. Nothing but clouds and rain. Looking forward to it. Nothing like winter coupled with darkness and clouds and rain… Blah.
We actually got a bit of sun today! Getting everything all squishy and slippery!
Guess it’s that time of the year. Looks like things are set to warm up next week or so. Rain too. I think I’ll break out the snowblower in a little bit, get something cleared, then maybe head over to the bar for a drink and some pizza. Hopefully. Hopefully they’re open! Lol this is what life is like. Nearing 50. Hee hee.
Haha yeah, we are kind of due for that mid-winter thaw even though it's not quite mid winter yet. I think we are getting Mexican tonight. Enjoy your pizza (hopefully)!
I so much admire this pictures and trust it is looking so awesome
Thanks 😊

Hey there,
it's been a while that I logged myself in here. A thought had me comeback today and that was "Molly".
I know it's been a few months from what I saw, but I am so sorry for your loss! Like really.
2023 was a terrible year, a year were death took many, my brother in law was just the beginning, and now I read that Molly made it to heaven as well :(.
She and Pepper are probably having a blast now, but the void is there for you. I hope you will have another furry doggy companion joining your family again in the future.
Until then let me send you a big hug from Joy and me...sry 4 being a stranger though
Oh boy yes.. It has been a rough few months for us. She was going down hill fast the last several months of her life. Eating was becoming a bit of an ordeal to say the least, but as any good fur parent would do, I tried absolutely everything as far as liquifying her food and feeding it to her through a syringe. Then a whole bunch of other problems arose. We eventually made the decision to have her pass quietly and peacefully surround by my wife and I. Hated doing it but I don't think she would have made it more than another 24 hours or so. She was that bad of shape. So sad to see all of those years come to an end. It's been rough.
I am so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. That's terrible. Death is not an easy thing to grasp regardless if you know it's coming or it is sudden. I am sorry that you and your family have to go through that.
We are going to do a little bit of traveling before taking on another furbaby. We will, just not right now.
Glad to hear from you! It brought a big smile to my face when I saw your handle in the comments. Nice to see a familiar face now and again. Hope (other than the losses) you are doing well. I know you had several projects going there for a while. Give Joy (and yourself of course) a nice hug back from us. We needed that virtual hug 😊 and it was greatly appreciated.
I know how hard it is to make the decision, I still feel terrible about deciding over my Rottweilers passing :(, even though I think he would have suffered otherwise. My Molly and Zoe went by themselves, it was hard but in hindsight felt better, rather than making that appointment. I hope Joy doesn't have to suffer and just sleeps away...in like 20 years.
He had a terrible Bronchitis over xmas and soon he is going to have his teeth removed. So liquifying food is on the table soon lol. I hope he survives the surgery, a Bulldog of 10 is not the most suitable patient. Fingers crossed for my baby boy. Btw he got a Trenchcoat for xmas, for health reasons. He looks adorable in it lol.
My brother in law passes suddenly a year ago, but a day after a stalker of him and my sister appeared on the scene and crazy shit happened. For a whole year, this crazy woman harassed, insulted and stalked us every week. On December 21st there was finally a court hearing where she received a temporary injunction. Let's see what happens when it runs out.
I'm telling you, crazy people in this world. Didn't make it any easier to get over his death. He was only 52 and it was so unexpected. We were roommates, and since I still live here, he is of course missing every day. On the other hand, it's hard to believe that a year has already passed since I found him. How the time flies. Oh well, life lol.
Heyyyyyy, traveling sounds great. 🤗
Oh wow… Yes, I'd say you've been through quite a bit. People are absolutely crazy in this world. My wife and I talk about it all the time. You just never know what crazy lives within some people. Mental illness runs rampant anymore. Not sure why or maybe I just focus on it more than normal. Anyhow, I hope she doesn't come back around. Hopefully she found some other muse to satisfy her whatever. Sorry you guys had to go through that.
I bet Joy looks awesome in that trenchcoat. You'll have to share a photo when you get one at some point.
It was a hard decision to make the choice to put Molly down although we rely on our vet an awful lot. He is pretty awesome and just tell us like it is. If there was hope he would have tried something but we all felt she wouldn’t have lasted the evening. Pepper went naturally, and it was a nightmare. It lasted forever and I was thinking of ways to help him pass quicker. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way before and I didn’t really want to feel that way again. It wasn’t a nice, easy passing. That’s for sure.
I suppose either way, it’s just about the same as the other. They both suck.
I'm so sorry for your loss, I can feel it so tangible as I read this post. It was a kind of sadness struggling side by side with the sweet aura of those beautiful photos of Nature.
Thank you for sharing ❤️
It's been tough I have to say. The house just feels empty. We are managing though. Time heals. 🥲
😔
