A Surprising Discovery Near The Pear Tree

What Mystery Awaited Me While Mowing ??

You are in luck! I will answer that for you right now...

The Story Starts Off Like This .. As the afternoon sun began to peek through the branches of the ancient oak tree (actually our young Pear tree, but an old wise Oak sounded better), I decided it was time to tackle the unruly lawn that had grown wild over the past week. Armed with my trusty lawnmower and a determined spirit, I set out to restore order to my little patch of greenery.

As the rhythmic hum of the lawnmower filled the air, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment as the grass was neatly trimmed. But little did I know that my mundane lawn-mowing task was about to take an extraordinary turn.

As I mowed closer to the majestic Pear tree, I noticed something peculiar buried amidst the old dingy mulch. It was a small, smooth, white and perfectly oval-shaped object. At first, I assumed it was just a stone or a piece of debris that had gotten mixed in with the mulch. However, as I bent down to take a closer look, I noticed a softness emanating from the surface of the object.

Curiosity had now gotten the better of me .. So I gently brushed away the mulch and lightly scraped some of the hardened soil from around it, revealing a beautiful, perfectly intact egg nestled in the soil!!! The egg had an antique like quality to it, almost as if it didn't belong in this setting. I couldn't fathom how this magnificent and mysterious egg had found its way to my yard.

IMG_9894.JPG

My mind raced with questions and wonder.. Where did this egg come from? How did it end up buried beneath the pear tree? And what secrets might lie hidden within its fragile shell? Was it a simple chicken's egg, or could it be something even more enchanting?

Despite my amazement, I decided not to disturb the egg any further. Instead, I carefully covered it back with the mulch, ensuring that it remained safe and undisturbed. My heart couldn't help but feel a sense of care for this unexpected gift from nature.

As the day went by and the mowing came to an end, I couldn't stop thinking about the enigmatic egg. It became a focal point of fascination, and I found myself eagerly awaiting the day when it might hatch and reveal its mysteries to the world. But that didn't last long.

IMG_9892.JPG

I could no longer resist the temptation .. and had to take another close look at the discovery. I grabbed a scrapper from my tool box and walked back out to the pear tree. I observed some small cracks within the surface of the shell. This couldn't be a freshly laid egg. I slightly tapped it and it had a hollow ring to it. Things were not looking good for the mystical egg. My imagination no longer ran wild, envisioning mythical creatures or perhaps even a tiny dragon growing within its confines.

IMG_E9896.JPG

I split the egg open .. at ones of it's cracks revealing nothing but a well preserved albumen membrane (yeah.. I had to look that one up). Within the inner membrane, there were no signs of dragons but only sand. Looks like ants took up residence here when the food supply was plentiful. After I had my fill of egg exploration, I crumpled up what was left and buried it under the old dingy mulch.

Sorry for the disappointing ending ..

BUT.. While the egg's true nature and origin remained a mystery, its presence brought a sense of enchantment and wonder into my world. And so, in the months to come, I will continue to mow my lawn with newfound excitement, knowing that...

Amidst the ordinary routines of life, extraordinary surprises may lie just beneath the surface, waiting to be discovered.

In the meadows where wildflowers sway,
Lived Pepper, our dear friend, so full of play.
One springtime morn, under sun's embrace,
He discovered an Easter basket, a treasure in that space.

With wagging tail and eyes gleaming bright,
He nudged the basket, a pure delight.
Amidst colored eggs and sweet surprise,
Pepper's heart soared, reaching the skies.

In fields of green where memories bloom,
Lies Pepper's resting place, a solemn room.
He once found joy in an Easter's delight,
An Easter basket, a moment so bright.

I thought sure it was a mushroom. I wouldn't have even guessed an egg. Even after you started clearing stuff away. I just finished mowing my lawn after being gone all weekend. it was brutal. I might have made a mistake having the lawn service company treat it this spring and summer!

hahaha.. We have a pretty large lawn area so I don't see the sense in spending thousands of dollars on lawn fert and weed chem.. we just like that it stays green for the most part. I do know that when I used to treat it, years back, it would grow like crazy.. so good luck! lol

Yes, I thought it was the start of one of those mushrooms that look like golf balls. but to my surprise it wasn't.

We only have about a quarter of an acre and most of that is taken up by the house and garage, so it's not too bad. I only have them doing the front too because I don't want the chemicals to affect Jovi in her domain (the back yard).

Love the poem!!! Pepper at the easter basket warmed my heart.

And the post was a very entertaining description of finding an empty egg.
