A Little Something Different - Picture A Day (or maybe not everyday)

IMG_3038.JPG

Short, Sweet, and a Little Bit of Pepper

Posting in a slightly different way today. I usually sit down to write something "quick" and end up spewing out a five-minute read. Every time I tell myself, "Brad, keep it simple," I look up and realize I’ve typed a novel.

So, today I’m taking a cue from a fellow Hiver. I noticed a community that's new to me called 'Picture A Day'. While I’m not sure I’ll manage a photo every single day, it’s a great reason to engage more consistently.

I’ve always loved photography. I even held onto my old darkroom equipment until this past summer, when I finally sold it to someone who will hopefully give it the home (and use) it deserves.

A Memory from the Garden

Without further delay, I wanted to share this photo of Pepper (rest in peace). Here he is, sitting in the garden and "keeping an eye" on the strawberries.

To be honest, that isn't entirely true. I’d like to think he was guarding the patch, but he was actually just watching me pick the season's first harvest, hoping I’d drop a bite for him.

Looking at this really touches me. Pepper was an incredible dog and truly the light of our lives for so many years. He brought us more joy than I can put into words. We still miss him every day—so much so that we accidentally call poor Huxley "Pepper" from time to time.

Huxley doesn’t seem to mind, though. Truth be told, he has a lot of the same traits Pepper had. I think they would have been the best of friends.

Awwwn, this gave me a flashback of this your pet, Pepper and te sketch of him which I did years back.

Huxley doesn’t seem to mind, though.

Huxley is cool too but Pepper can never be replaced.

Hey! How have you been?
GREAT to hear from you and YES I remember that sketch.
Damn we miss him, but Huxley and now Hazel have really filled the emptiness we had. Him having a lot of Pepper Personality sure does help too.
But the pain never seems to go away :-/
Hope you are well

I do look forward to your doggy posts. I just love dogs so much. My parents had a dog that was I think, loved more than I am in that family and it took them many years to get over the pain of it dying even though it lived 4 years longer than the average age for that breed. They now have 3 dogs, all rescues. My mom, who is old herself, occasionally slips up and calls the smaller one by the passed on dog's name as well. This is probably pretty normal.

Hey!!! How have you and Nadi been? Glad to hear from you.

Man, I totally get that. Dogs aren't just pets, they basically run the household! LOL. It sounds like your parents’ old pup had an incredible run. Living four years past the average is a massive win, though I know that doesn't make the goodbye any easier.

It’s awesome they’ve got three rescues now. And honestly, your mom slipping up with the name? Totally normal.. We do it all of the time. It’s just muscle memory from the heart I think.

I’ll definitely keep the dog content coming for you. Give those three rescues a pat for me!

Have to replant it this year if we decide, but knowing us we'll be pulled in all directions very quickly once the weather breaks.
