Weekend- Engagement - Week 152: The Surprising Me

There are things I never imagined myself doing because of my nature. Growing up, I was an introvert, and I don't like dealing with crowds to the extent that I don't like visitors. I always found it difficult to mingle with people, and this continued until I came of age. This became a source of concern for my parents because whenever there is an outing, I always prefer to stay back at home. You might be wondering how I cope in school.

During my secondary school days, I had two friends that I walked and talked with; we started together in SS1. This made me comfortable with them, and whenever there is a discussion that involves my other classmates, I do stay silent because I don't want to interact with anyone other than my two friends. I do not isolate myself, nor do I participate in any functions.

As a Christian, it is expected that you join a service unit in the church where you will be serving as a worker. My parents asked me which unit I would love to join in order to overcome my shy nature. I told them I wouldn't join any as I don't want to associate with people, but my parents insisted I join the choir unit. I fought it hard within myself, but I couldn't escape it as per my parents wishes.

At the end of the argument, I had no choice but to do as my parents said. I joined the choir unit, and gradually I started building my confidence. I did think I couldn't do it because I'd never tried it; this is why it's always said, "Never say never until you try.

As time went on, I began to get used to it, and gradually I began to socialize with people. I got over myself being shy and began to face the world. I couldn't believe I could do that, and it was a surprise to me because everyone around me was shocked at my transformation. My parents were so happy, and I am too, because I'm now more accommodating and I vibe well with people. Many people that meet me now will see me as an extrovert because that has overridden the introverted me.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

It's a good thing you listened to your parents and joined the choir because that's when you started to gain confidence in yourself.❤️🤗🌹
