I would say, you tried a whole lot to handle the situation, because some people wouldn't want to tolerate despite the age Differences and issues probably will escalate to something else.

I totally understand how mean some people can be, not only the women but in general, so we just have to understand them and know how best to parole with them. Her case here I'll say, since she's single and over 40, this implies they might be something more to her reactions, maybe that's where she grew up, her past experiences or the old age thing.
Many people on getting old, start possessing either I'll or matured attitude that wasn't there before.
