My Favourite Subject in School - "From Mathematics to Chemistry"

Greetings Everyone. First of all, I want to say a Big thank you to the Hive Reachout Community for this amazing opportunity to reflect on our school days. Looking way back, there was one subject that always had my heart and that's – Mathematics.

Why Mathematics Stood Out for Me

Back then in my elementary school, I remember how so effortlessly I connected with the numbers. No matter how tough the topic may seemed, I would always if not the first person to find a way around it. While others did dreaded math periods, I was always looking forward to them. I didn't just pass mathematics, I excelled at it. I was so so good that my class teachers called me the “best mathematician” in class. And this wasn’t just in one school, but I was attested even after changing nursery schools, I was still recognized for my mathematical brilliance.

  • There was more to about solving problems and getting the right answers that always gave me joy. It wasn’t even about the grades alone — it felt like maths spoke a language my mind understood so perfectly. I loved the structure, the logic, and the very clarity it offered.

My Mother’s Motivation

My dear mother played a huge role in help shaping my academic interest. She would always say to me, “If only you could be this good in other subjects like you are in mathematics, then I would be so much happier.” Her words then weren’t just casual remarks but they pushed me to always try harder in other areas. Over time, I then found myself focusing more on subjects I previously ignored and those I never think 🤔 I could love.

My Journey From Maths to Chemistry

So Interestingly, even though maths was my very first love, I didn’t end up studying it in tertiary institution. Today, I’m an undergraduate student of Chemistry and Education. But the foundation mathematics truly gave me is still solid. It has helped me to handle complex calculations and understand scientific principles better. Chemistry, to me, is life — it explains more of the world around us, from the food we do eat to the air we breathe.

  • I believe more in the passion my mother helped spark in me that grew beyond maths. It opened up my mind to see beauty in other subjects, especially more of the sciences. That’s why I confidently chose today chemistry. It’s a subject that combines logic, experiment, and a real-world application.

Conclusion

Maths though may have been my favorite subject in school, but I'll count it to be as a stepping stone. It built in my confidence, shaped my way of thinking, and laid the foundation for the path I walk through today. I’m grateful for that journey and even more grateful for those who helped encouraged me along the way, My Parents, Guardians and the Staffs in School.
"I really appreciate 🙏"
